Antonino Giovanni Ribisi (born December 17, 1974), known professionally as Giovanni Ribisi and sometimes credited as Vonni Ribisi, is an American actor and cinematographer. He has appeared in the films Saving Private Ryan (1998), Gone in 60 Seconds (2000), Heaven (2002), Lost In Translation (2003), Flight of the Phoenix (2004), Perfect Stranger (2007), Avatar (2009), Public Enemies (2009), Gangster Squad (2013), A Million Ways to Die in the West (2014), and Papa: Hemingway in Cuba (2015). He had starring roles in the TV sitcom Dads (2013–2014) and the crime drama series Sneaky Pete (2015–2019). He also had recurring roles in television series such as The Wonder Years (1992–1993), Friends (1995–1998, 2003) and My Name Is Earl (2005–2008).

Early life

Ribisi was born in Los Angeles on December 17, 1974. [2] His father, Al Ribisi, is a musician who had been the keyboard player in People!, and his mother, Gay, is a manager of actors and writers. [3] He is the twin brother of actress Marissa Ribisi and the brother of voice actress Gina Ribisi. [4] [5]

Career

Ribisi began acting when he was young, and was in the 1980s sitcom My Two Dads and in films during the 1990s. [6] He had a prominent part as a recurring character in the popular 1990s sitcom Friends , playing the half brother of Phoebe Buffay. Later, for My Name Is Earl , he was nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series. By the late 1990s, he began to have significant roles in several successful films.

In 2016, Ribisi directed a music video for "Siberian Nights", the third single from Ash & Ice by The Kills. [7] [8] [9] [10]

Ribisi starred as Marius/“Pete” in the Amazon series Sneaky Pete over its three seasons. [11]

Ribisi married actress Mariah O'Brien in 1997 [12] and together they have a daughter. [13] The couple divorced in 2001. In 2007, he began a relationship with indie rock singer-songwriter Cat Power. The couple lived together for five years before ending their relationship in 2012. [14] Ribisi married English model Agyness Deyn on June 16, 2012, and filed for divorce in January 2015. [15] [16] [1] He announced the birth of his fraternal twins with girlfriend Emily Ward in December 2018. [17]

Ribisi is an active Scientologist. [18] He participated in the gala opening of Scientology's Psychiatry: An Industry of Death museum in December 2005. [19]

Sneaky Pete is an American black comedy crime drama series created by David Shore and Bryan Cranston. The series follows Marius Josipović, a released convict who adopts the identity of his cellmate, Pete Murphy, to avoid his past life. The series also stars Marin Ireland, Shane McRae, Libe Barer, Michael Drayer, Peter Gerety and Margo Martindale. The pilot debuted on August 7, 2015, and was followed by a full series order that September. Shore left the project in early 2016 and was replaced by Graham Yost, who served as executive producer and showrunner for the remaining nine episodes. The first season premiered in its entirety on January 13, 2017, exclusively on Amazon Prime Video.
