Glasgow 2018 (Scots : Glesca 2018 or Glesga 2018; Scottish Gaelic : Glaschu 2018) was a bid by the city of Glasgow and the British Olympic Association to host the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics. [1]
On 19 September 2011 it was announced that Glasgow would bid for the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics. Glasgow hosted the 2014 Commonwealth Games. The city cites the preparations for the Commonwealth Games as a step forward in being able to make a strong bid for the Youth Olympic Games. [2] On 22 February 2012 the BOA agreed to put Glasgow forward as the United Kingdom's bidding city for the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics. [3]
In April 2012, Glasgow was awarded the 2015 IPC Swimming European Championships. [4]
On 28 June 2012 the Glasgow City Council unanimously voted to approve the Glasgow 2018 bid. [5]
Scotland, Wales and Ireland placed a bid to co-host UEFA Euro 2020. [6] However, this plan failed when UEFA announced that the event will be held across Europe in multiple countries. [7] [8]
In July 2012 Glasgow 2018 established their bid board which is being led by BOA Chairman Colin Moynihan. It also comprises Shona Robison who is the Scottish minister for the Commonwealth Games as well as Gordon Matheson who is the leader of the Glasgow City Council. [9] British Prime Minister David Cameron threw his support behind the bid later that month. [10]
On 13 February 2013, the IOC selected Glasgow as one of the three candidate cities for the 2018 Summer Youth Olympic Games. [11]
In June 2013, the IOC Evaluation Commission released their report of the candidate cities and found that the Glasgow bid carried minimal risk. [12]
Glasgow 2018 stated in June 2013, that if elected as host city, that young people would be involved with the Organizing Committee. [13]
Glasgow was awarded the 2015 European Judo Championships on 27 June 2013, one week before the IOC votes to select the host city of the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics. [14]
On 4 July 2013 Glasgow was eliminated in the first round of voting in the host city election. Glasgow received 13 votes in the first round. Buenos Aires went on to be elected as the host city of the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics in the final round of voting. [15]

London has made four successful bids for the Summer Olympic Games in the past. They were awarded the 1908, 1944, 1948 and 2012 Summer Olympics. The 1944 Games however were cancelled due to World War II, however London still hosted the games three years after the war ended.
Birmingham bid to host the 1992 Summer Olympics but lost to Barcelona. Manchester bid for the 1996 and 2000 Summer Olympics but lost to Atlanta and Sydney respectively.

The Glasgow bid for the 2014 Commonwealth Games was the successful bid to host the 2014 Commonwealth Games by the city of Glasgow, Scotland. It beat the Abuja 2014 Commonwealth Games bid to host the games. The event was held over 11 days, with the opening ceremony taking place on 23 July, 2014, and the last day of competition and the closing ceremony on 3 August, 2014.

The 2018 Summer Youth Olympics, officially known as the III Summer Youth Olympic Games, and commonly known as Buenos Aires 2018, were an international sports, cultural, and educational event held from 6 to 18 October 2018 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. They were the first Youth Olympic Games held outside of Eurasia, and the first Summer Games held outside of Asia and the first to be held in the Western and Southern hemispheres. It was the second Olympic Games held in South America after the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The bidding process for the UEFA Euro 2020 is the process by which the location for the 16th European Championship, commonly referred to as Euro 2020, was selected. The process officially began on 21 March 2012 with the intent to announce the hosts in late 2013 or early 2014. Despite interest from Turkey, a joint bid from Scotland, the Republic of Ireland and Wales and a proposal from Georgia and Azerbaijan, UEFA announced on 6 December 2012 that it had made the unprecedented decision to host the tournament in multiple cities across Europe.

On 7 September, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) elected Tokyo as the host city of the 2020 Summer Olympic Games. Wrestling was restored to the Olympic sports program for 2020 and 2024. Thomas Bach was elected to an eight-year term as IOC President on 10 September.
Istanbul 2020 was a bid for the 2020 Summer Olympics by the city of Istanbul and the Turkish Olympic Committee.
Baku 2020 was a bid for the 2020 Summer Olympics by the city of Baku and the National Olympic Committee of Azerbaijan. Bids were also placed by Doha, Istanbul, Madrid, Rome and the chosen host city of Tokyo.

Guadalajara 2018 was a bid by the city of Guadalajara and the Comité Olímpico Mexicano to host the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics.
Rotterdam 2018 was a bid by the city of Rotterdam and the Dutch Olympic Committee to host the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics.
Poznań 2018 was a bid by the city of Poznań and the Polish Olympic Committee to host the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics. Poznań withdrew their bid on October 9, 2012 for financial reasons.
Six bids were made for the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics. The IOC selected three of the bids as candidate cities. On July 4, 2013, Buenos Aires was elected as host city.
Five bids were initially submitted for the 2024 Summer Olympics. Following withdrawals, two bidding cities—Paris and Los Angeles—were left in the process. In July 2017, the IOC agreed to award the 2024 and 2028 Games simultaneously. Los Angeles agreed to bid for the 2028 Games, effectively ceding the 2024 Games to Paris.

There were a total of four bids which were initially submitted for the 2022 Summer Youth Olympics. In September 2018, the International Olympic Committee agreed to award the 2022 Summer Youth Olympics to the city of Dakar in Senegal.
