Rotterdam 2018 was a bid by the city of Rotterdam and the Dutch Olympic Committee to host the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics.

On February 29, 2012 it was announced that Rotterdam would bid for the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics [1]

Rotterdam failed to become a Candidate City for the games when the IOC selected the Candidate cities on February 13, 2013. [2]

Buenos Aires was ultimately selected as the host city of the 2018 Summer Youth Olympic Games on July 4, 2013. [3]

Previous bids by other Dutch cities

Amsterdam has made a total of six bids for the Summer Olympic Games. They first bid for the 1916 Summer Olympics but lost to Berlin. These games however were cancelled due to World War I. They then bid for the 1920 and 1924 Summer Olympics but lost to Antwerp and Paris respectively. Amsterdam went on to successfully bid for the 1928 Summer Olympics. The city later went on to bid for the 1952 and 1992 Summer Olympics but lost to Helsinki and Barcelona respectively.

The Youth Olympic Games (YOG) is an international multi-sport event for athletes between 14 and 18 years old, organized by the International Olympic Committee. The games are held every four years in staggered summer and winter events consistent with the current Olympic Games format, though in reverse order with Olympic Winter Games held in leap years instead of Summer Olympic Games. The 2018 Summer Youth Olympics, officially known as the III Summer Youth Olympic Games, and commonly known as Buenos Aires 2018, were an international sports, cultural, and educational event held in Buenos Aires, Argentina between 6 and 18 October 2018. They were the first Youth Olympic Games held outside of Eurasia, and the first Summer Games held outside of Asia and the first to be held in the Western and Southern hemispheres. It was the second Olympic Games held in South America after the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Rome bid for the 2020 Summer Olympics Bid to host the Summer Olympics

Rome 2020 was a proposed bid for the 2020 Summer Olympics by the city of Rome and the Italian National Olympic Committee. Rome had previously hosted the 1960 Summer Olympics. The bid for the 2020 Games was withdrawn due to the lack of support from the Italian government.

Bids for the 2020 Summer Olympics

125th IOC Session

The 125th IOC Session took place at the Buenos Aires Hilton in Buenos Aires, Argentina, from 7 to 10 September 2013. On 7 September, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) elected Tokyo as the host city of the 2020 Summer Olympic Games. Wrestling was restored to the Olympic sports program for 2020 and 2024. Thomas Bach was elected to an eight-year term as IOC President on 10 September.

Tokyo bid for the 2020 Summer Olympics

Tokyo 2020 was a successful bid for the 2020 Summer Olympics by the city of Tokyo and the Japanese Olympic Committee. On September 7, 2013 at the 125th IOC Session in Buenos Aires, Tokyo won their bid to host the games. Tokyo previously hosted the 1964 Summer Olympics. On August 3, 2016 it was reported that the IOC approved the addition of five sports to the program of the 2020 Olympics including the return of baseball and softball. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 Summer Olympics ended up being rescheduled from 24 July 2020 to 23 July 2021.

Buenos Aires 2018 was the successful bid by the city of Buenos Aires and the Argentine Olympic Committee to host the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics.

Five bids were initially submitted for the 2024 Summer Olympics. Following withdrawals, two bidding cities—Paris and Los Angeles—were left in the process. In July 2017, the IOC agreed to award the 2024 and 2028 Games simultaneously. Los Angeles agreed to bid for the 2028 Games, effectively ceding the 2024 Games to Paris.

128th IOC Session

The 128th IOC Session took place from July 30 – August 3, 2015, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. The host city for the 2022 Winter Olympics and the 2020 Winter Youth Olympics were elected during the 128th IOC Session on July 31, 2015.

2030 Summer Youth Olympics

The 2030 Summer Youth Olympics, officially known as the V Summer Youth Olympic Games will be the fifth edition of the Summer Youth Olympics, an international sports, education and cultural festival for teenagers, in a city designated by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Bids for the 2022 Summer Youth Olympics

There were a total of four bids which were initially submitted for the 2022 Summer Youth Olympics. In September 2018, the International Olympic Committee agreed to award the 2022 Summer Youth Olympics to the city of Dakar in Senegal.

Bids for the 2024 Winter Youth Olympics

There were a total of four bids which were initially submitted for the 2024 Winter Youth Olympics. On 8 January 2020, the IOC EB agreed to award the 2024 Winter Youth Olympics to the province of Gangwon.
