Gliss Riffer is the fourth studio album by American electronic musician Dan Deacon. It was released on February 24, 2015, [1] on Domino Records.
The album's title is combination of the common music term "Gliss", short for glissando, and riffer, "one who plays sick riffs". In an interview with NPR, Deacon said: "It's something that auto-correct wants to make sure that no one can actually type: I've seen 'Glass Rafter,' 'Gloss Dripper.' But I kind of like the idea of the Internet trying to change the name of my record. I feel like it really speaks to the age we live in, where there's such a homogeny of technology that you try to write something down, it instantly changes and no one even notices." [2]
While previous efforts Bromst and America utilized outside production from Chester Endersby Gwazda, Gliss Riffer marks Deacon's first production process entirely solo. [3] In an interview with Dummy Mag, Deacon states, "I love working with others, but ultimately I'm a solo artist. After several albums and projects that had large collaborative elements, I wanted to return to making something alone with the instruments I knew best." [4]
In an interview with Consequence of Sound about the album, Deacon says, "Lyrically and musically, it's me trying to relax. I wanted to make Gliss Riffer about me trying to confront my own anxieties or insecurities and the stresses in my life. In saying that, I also wanted the record to be fun. I wanted to figure out why music making is fun for me." [5]
Deacon recorded the album while on tour with Arcade Fire in 2014. Deacon created the album in green rooms and hotels, and on days off used studios to track vocals or mix. Deacon states, "When a studio couldn't be found, I dismantled a hotel bathroom, sealing the vents with towels and using all the bedding to turn it into a control room."
While creating the album, Deacon discovered a newfound appreciation for his voice after going through an extended bout of laryngitis. Deacon states, "I started thinking about how the voice is an instrument that expires, and that made me want to make an album with the voice more exposed." [6]
The album marks the debut use of Moog's analog synth, the Sub 37. [7]

The album has received a number of accolades. Consequence of Sound , Under the Radar , and Gigwise named Gliss Riffer the 15th, [14] 41st, [15] and 53rd [16] best album of 2015, respectively.

"Layla" is a song written by Eric Clapton and Jim Gordon, originally recorded with their band Derek and the Dominos, as the thirteenth track from their only studio album, Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs (1970). Its contrasting movements were composed separately by Clapton and Gordon. The piano part has also been controversially credited to Rita Coolidge, Gordon's girlfriend at the time.

"Deacon Blues" is a song written by Walter Becker and Donald Fagen in 1976 and recorded by their group Steely Dan on their 1977 album Aja. It peaked at number 19 on the Billboard charts and number 17 on the U.S. Cash Box Top 100 in June 1978. It also reached #40 on the Easy Listening chart. Future Islands is an American synth-pop band based in Baltimore, Maryland, comprising Gerrit Welmers, William Cashion, Samuel T. Herring, and Michael Lowry (percussion). The band was formed in January 2006 by Welmers, Cashion and Herring—the remaining members of the performance art college band Art Lord & the Self-Portraits—and drummer Erick Murillo.
"Chelsea Smile" is a song by British rock band Bring Me the Horizon. Produced by Fredrik Nordström and Henrik Udd, it was featured on the band's 2008 second studio album Suicide Season. The song was also released as the second music video from the album on 19 January 2009. Heartland is the third full-length album by Canadian indie rock artist Owen Pallett, released January 12, 2010 on Domino Records. It's the first of Pallett's records to be released under their own name. Since the album was their first to be released in Japan, they wished to avoid generating confusion with the Final Fantasy video games from Square Enix, and to avoid infringing on any trademarks. Pallett stated that their previous albums will be repackaged and reissued under their own name at some point.

Suck It and See is the fourth studio album by English rock band Arctic Monkeys, released on 6 June 2011 by Domino Recording Company. It was produced in Los Angeles at Sound City Studios by the band's longtime collaborator James Ford in early 2011, using mostly live takes opposed to overdubbing. Sinners Never Sleep is the third studio album by English rock band You Me at Six. It was released on 3 October 2011 through Virgin Records. While touring in support of their second studio album Hold Me Down (2010), the band wrote slow-tempo material and heavy-sounding songs. Between March and May 2011, they recorded with producer Garth Richardson at Sunset Sound and The Sound Factory in Los Angeles, California. Partway through the process, vocalist Josh Franceschi suffered a panic attack, which resulted in him being hospitalized and the band losing time in the studio. Jake Bugg is an English singer-songwriter. His self-titled debut album, Jake Bugg, some of which was co-written with songwriter Iain Archer, was released in October 2012 and reached number one on the UK Albums Chart. His second album, Shangri La, was released in November 2013 and his third, largely self-produced album On My One, in June 2016. His fourth album Hearts That Strain, a largely acoustic effort, produced by Dan Auerbach, was released in September 2017. AM is the fifth studio album by English rock band Arctic Monkeys. It was produced by longtime collaborator James Ford and co-produced by Ross Orton at Sage & Sound Recording in Los Angeles and Rancho De La Luna in Joshua Tree, California, and released on 9 September 2013 through Domino Recording Company. The album was promoted by the singles "R U Mine?", "Do I Wanna Know?", "Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High?", "One for the Road", "Arabella", and "Snap Out of It". It features guest appearances by Josh Homme, Bill Ryder-Jones, and Pete Thomas.
"Dan Deacon: U.S.A." is the first animated television special of the American anthology series Off the Air. The special was edited and directed by creator and executive producer Dave Hughes. The episode incorporates surreal footage of landscapes in the United States, with music by Dan Deacon from the album America. The special was commissioned by Williams Street Records as part of the Adult Swim 2013 Singles Program. The episode coincided with the release of another track by Deacon entitled "Why Am I on This Cloud?", featuring samples from other Adult Swim programming.
Night Thoughts is the seventh studio album by English alternative rock band Suede. Produced by long-time collaborator Ed Buller, the album was released through Warner Music UK on 22 January 2016 to widespread critical acclaim. It was accompanied by a feature film, directed by Roger Sargent. During their 2016 tour the band performed from behind a screen on which Sargent's film was projected during the first half of their set. "Love Me" is a song by English band the 1975 from their second studio album, I Like It When You Sleep, for You Are So Beautiful yet So Unaware of It (2016). The song was written by Matty Healy, George Daniel, Adam Hann and Ross MacDonald. Mike Crossey handled the production alongside Daniel and Healy. It was released on 8 October 2015 by Dirty Hit and Polydor Records as the lead single from the album. Written two years before its release, the song was inspired by the band's adjustment to their newfound celebrity status, having found themselves in a scene where fame was prized as currency. The track's production was inspired by the music of the 1980s, specifically the work of Trevor Horn, Frankie Goes to Hollywood and Oingo Boingo.
