Gold Star Families Memorial and Park is located east of Soldier Field in Chicago, in the U.S. state of Illinois. [1] [2] [3] The memorial is maintained by the Chicago Police Department Honor Guard and is intended to honor 585 CPD officers who died in the line of duty. [4] The memorial was dedicated in 2006 by the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation. [5]

Its design and construction was the collaborative effort of a broad range of professionals, including architects, landscapers, engineers, and construction experts. The memorial is located adjacent to the Indiana Government Center North, on the northwest corner of Bicentennial Plaza and Senate Avenue in downtown Indianapolis, Indiana, United States. The memorial was dedicated on June 6, 2001, after ten months of planning and construction. On November 22, 2016, Collin Rose, a police officer with the Wayne State University Police Department who worked with police dogs, was shot to death in Detroit, Michigan. The shooting occurred following an attempt by the officer to stop and question a bicyclist riding near the Wayne State University campus in an area which was experiencing an increase in thefts. The bicyclist was arrested and charged, but later released due to lack of evidence. Rose, who was shot in the head, died the following day at 5:45 p.m. at Detroit Receiving Hospital. He was surrounded by his family and close friends while his co-workers and fellow law enforcement waited in the hospital lobby.

Murders of Abigail Williams and Liberty German 2017 unsolved case in Indiana, US

On February 14, 2017, the bodies of Abigail Williams and Liberty German were discovered near the Monon High Bridge Trail, which is part of the Delphi Historic Trails in Delphi, Indiana, United States, after the young girls had disappeared from the same trail the previous day. The murders have received significant media coverage because a video and audio recording of an individual believed to be the girls' killer were found on German's smartphone. Despite thousands of tips that have been sent to the police and the circulation of the recordings of the suspect, no arrest in the case has been made.

George Floyd African American man murdered by police in 2020

George Perry Floyd Jr. was an African American man murdered by a police officer during an arrest after a store clerk suspected he may have used a counterfeit $20 bill in Minneapolis. Derek Chauvin, one of four police officers who arrived on the scene, knelt on Floyd's neck and back for 9 minutes and 29 seconds. After his death, protests against police brutality, especially towards black people, quickly spread across the United States and globally. As he was dying, he said, "I can't breathe," which was used as a rallying cry during subsequent protests.

George Floyd Square is a memorial site and former occupied protest at the intersection of East 38th Street and Chicago Avenue in Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States. The street intersection is where Derek Chauvin, a White police officer with the Minneapolis Police Department, restrained George Floyd, an unarmed 46-year-old Black man, by kneeling on his neck for 9 minutes and 29 seconds after Floyd was handcuffed and lying face down outside the Cup Foods convenience store on May 25, 2020. The murder of Floyd, which was captured on video by bystanders and circulated widely in the media, sparked a global protest movement about police violence and structural racism. Soon after Floyd's death, people left memorials to him there. The intersection was held for over a year as an occupation protest by people who had erected barricades to block vehicular traffic and transformed the space with amenities, social services, and public art of Floyd and that of other racial justice themes.
