Radio & Weasel was a Ugandan music Duo that performed under their record label Goodlyfe Crew a Ugandan music group with lead performers being singers Moses Radio (born Moses Nakintije Ssekibogo) and [ Weasel Manizo] (born Douglas Mayanja). Moses Radio provided smooth RnB vocals while Weasel's contribution is a fusion of reggae, ragga and dancehall vibes. [1] Because of their prominence, Moses Radio and Weasel formed their own duo known as Radio and Weasel. The Lead singer Moses and Vocalist Radio died on 1 February 2018 from brain injuries after an assault by a bouncer at a club in Entebbe. Radio's attacker threw him down about 3 metres (9.8 ft) onto a concrete pavement which resulted in massive intracranial hemorrhage. Radio and Weasel also formed The Goodlyfe Crew. The crew saw many changes in its set-up but at various times included Chagga, Lenin Briton, and Lawrence (Goodlyfe Crew). Many of its members had their own solo projects and collaborations.

Radio and Weasel

Moses Radio (birth name Moses Nakintije Ssekibogo) had a prosperous musical career. He studied his ordinary level from 1998 to 2001 at Holy Cross Lake View Secondary School in Jinja, where he served as president of the school's Youth Alive Club. He composed musical projects for the club that succeeded in inter-school Youth Alive Club competitions. In 2002, Radio studied at Kiira College Butiki in Jinja where he had a two-year break in his musical career concentrating on his studies. He later joined Jose Chameleone's Leone Island Crew in 2004. [1] While working as Jose Chameleone's backing vocalist, Radio released solos on Leone Island Records. These include "Jennifer", "Dagala", "Wololo" and "Sweet Lady". [1] Sweet Lady was well received, though Radio's public profile remained low.

Weasel (born Douglas Mayanja) started as an independent artist who released solo projects under the auspices of his elder brother's records, but it was his collaboration with Jose Chameleone on "Bomboclat" that caught audience attention.

Radio and Weasel became backing vocalists for the greatly popular Ugandan musician Jose Chameleone but later broke off from Chameleone's Leone Island Crew in 2008 to form the Goodlyfe Crew.

The duo Radio and Weasel songs have been successful on Ugandan radio. [2] Starting with "Nakudata" in 2008, the duo released "Lwaki Onumya", "Zuena", "Nyambura" and "Bread and Butter". In mid-2008, the duo collaborated with artists such as Rachel Kay, Blu*3, OS, Allan Toniks, GNL and Zambia's General Ozzy. They performed live and collaborated with Ugandan artist Keko. of recently, they new African faces further with the likes of PJ Powers, with their song dubbed Home to Africa, with Jamaican superstar on their jam Fire & Butter The super talented duo have further their road to success by collaborating with the Warner Music Group twin brothers Locnville in their single Done

Radio And Weasel were also the lead performers of Goodlyfe Crew. The membership of the band fluctuated, but the main members of Goodlyfe Crew were: [3]

All members released solo projects. Jeff Kiwanuka was replaced by Chaggaman as manager following Kiwanuka's expulsion in late 2014.

Former members

Goodlyfe Crew have their own production house, Goodlyfe Magic. [9] However, the Goodlyfe crew have several other projects, especially in music production: they have done songs under other producers such as Washington, Bleas, Swangz Avenue, Bushington and label Nash Wonder of Monster. [10] [11]

Controversies and collaborations

In 2008, Radio and Weasel produced "Potential" with Zambian General Ozzy. [12] The Ugandan duo did "Take my Heart Still" with Ozzy. [13] [14]

In 2009, Goodlyfe Crew had a hit that they recorded alongside Rabadaba, "Opportunity or Ability". However, it was claimed that the song induced violence against Bebe Cool, especially on Radio's part. [15] In early 2014, Radio and Weasel collaborated Pallaso and Mess, in the song "Amaaso". [16] In 2011, they produced "Dembesa" with Da TWINZ. [17] [18] Radio and Weasel released another collaboration with Diamond Oscar in the song "You Make Me cry". [19] Radio and Weasel have recorded with other Ugandan artists: "Tax Money" with Sizza Man, [20] "Pollination", with Obsession in 2011. [21]

In 2010, Radio and Weasel recorded "Maama Wabaana" with Tom Close. [22] and in 2013, they recorded with Desire Luzinda, and "Hellena" with David Lutalo. [23] [24]

In March 2011 a new dispute arose in Kampala between Radio/Weasel and Kenzo. This dispute stemmed from Kenzo's song "Mundeke Numbe". The Goodlyfe Crew claimed that the whole concept of the song and video was copied from their song "Talk and Talk". [25]

In December 2013, Radio and Weasel fought a famous musical battle with Bebe Cool. Dubbed "The Battle of the Champions", it was held at Kyadondo Rugby grounds. [26] Chameleone praised the Goodlyfe Crew for their performance; he also praised Bebe Cool. [27] No clear decision emerged. [27] [28] This also led into resolving of their dispute with their former Leone Island boss Chameleone and Radio and Weasel teamed up again with Chameleone for the first time since their breakup in 2008. [29] This prompted the duo to share the stage with Chameleone in the Tubonge concert of 2014. [30]

In 2013 the two claimed to have ended their dispute with Gagamel singer Bebe Cool as well. [31]

In August 2011, Goodlyfe's Radio and Weasle were nominated in Africa music awards, MOAMA for the group of the year. The Goodlyfe's song Vuvuzela(2010 hit) was in the nominations in the dance hall category. [36]

Aziz Mukisa, professionally known by his stage name Aziz Azion, is a Ugandan R&B singer-songwriter, guitarist and musician. He was born Aziz Mukisa on 27 July 1986 in Fort Portal, Uganda and raised in Kampala where he attended his early school program before making his move into the music industry at an early age. Popularly known as "the guitar emperor", Aziz has graced the Ugandan and East African music charts with the songs 'Yegwe', 'Nkumila Omukwano', 'Nakupenda', 'Oxygen', 'Beera Nange', 'Nzikiriza', 'Pain Killer', and 'Yo Love', among others. Popular music promoter and veteran disc spinner DJ Erycom while appearing on a TV Show, he said that "Leero Monday" was the very first song composed and sung by Aziz Azion in the year 2007.

Undercover Brothers Ug also simply known as Undercover Brothers are a Ugandan music duo composed of guitarist and vocalist Jay K Mulungi and vocalist Timothy Kirya, whose music career sparked off when they won the auditions and represented Uganda in the sixth season of East Africa's biggest singing competition Tusker Project Fame. The duo released their first album titled At Dawn in December 2014. In December 2016, their song Nsikatila was nominated in the Best R&B Song category at HiPipo Music Awards (#HMA) 2017.

AK 47, Akay 47, Ak Fortyseven, AkayFourtyseven birth name Emmanuel Mayanja was a Ugandan Dancehall and Kidandali music artist, he rose to fame in 2012 with his song "Champion". He is said to have been one of the best dancehall musicians Uganda has ever had. He died on 16 March 2015 a mysterious death.

Pius Mayanja known by his stage name Pallaso is a Ugandan recording artist, songwriter, producer and videographer. His music genre specialty is Afrobeats, Hip hop, Dancehall, Afropop, and RnB. His musical journey started back in 2000 when he started out at Leone Island, a musical group owned by his older brother, Dr. Jose Chameleone. He later moved to the US, where he lived for 10 years, before returning to Uganda in 2014. Upon his return, he set out to establish his now very celebrated musical career, and formed the group, "Team Good Music" which seems to be working well in the Uganda Music Industry.

Sister Charity is a western Ugandan musical artist and TV personality. She presents the morning show (Sisimuka) on TV West in Mbarara, Uganda. She is popularly known for her 2001 hit song Grade. She sings mostly in her native language Runyankore and then Luganda and English. She was listed among the best artists from Western Uganda alongside Juliana Kanyomozi, Ray G, Angella Katatumba and Toniks on Hi Pipo.

Sheebah Karungi, professionally known as Queen Karma and Sheebah, is a Ugandan musician, dancer, actress and feminist activist. She debuted her acting career in Queen of Katwe as Shakira. After quitting Obsessions, a dance group she joined in 2006, she started making music and later rose to recognition upon the release of her hit single "Ice Cream". In 2014, she released her debut project Ice Cream, a five-track EP which did well commercially and led her to win back-to-back HiPipo Music Awards Best Female Artist in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024. She also won the Artist of the Year award twice, in 2017, 2018, and 2019 at the HiPipo Music Awards. Zisabusolo Willy, professionally known as Liam Voice, is a Ugandan singer and songwriter born on 25 April 1998. Liam was born and raised from Kampala District. He is known for soul touching love songs and he is signed under Cloud Africa management.
