Gorontalo is a regency of Gorontalo Province, Indonesia, on the island of Sulawesi. It was established in 1959 under Law No. 29/1959 from the remaining parts of North Sulawesi Regency (not to be confused with the current province), but has subsequently been reduced in area as additional regencies have been cut out of it. It now has an area of 2,189.08 km2 and had a population of 355,988 at the 2010 Census [2] and 393,107 at the 2020 Census; [3] the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 418,244 (comprising 210,454 males and 207,790 females). [1] The administrative headquarters of the regency is in the town of Limboto.
At the time of the 2010 Census the Regency was divided into seventeen districts (kecamatan), but two additional districts (Dungaliyo and Bilato) have subsequently been created by splitting of existing districts. The districts are tabulated below with their areas and their populations at the 2010 Census [2] and 2020 Census, [3] together with the official estimates as at mid 2023. [1] The table also includes the locations of the district administrative centres, the number of administrative villages in each district (totaling 191 rural desa and 14 urban kelurahan - the latter being those comprising the district of Limboto town), and its postal codes.

The Banggai Regency is a regency located at the eastern end of Central Sulawesi Province of Indonesia. It makes up a re-established regency (kabupaten), created on 4 October 1999 by splitting the existing Banggai Regency into this smaller Banggai Regency situated on the mainland of Sulawesi and a new Banggai Islands Regency comprising the offshore islands to the southeast which are separated from mainland Sulawesi by the Peleng Straits. The residual Banggai Regency covers an area of 9,672.70 km2 and had a population of 323,626 at the 2010 census and 362,275 at the 2020 census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 373,693.
Ende Regency is a regency on the island of Flores, within East Nusa Tenggara Province of Indonesia. The regency covers an area of 2,091.19 km2, and it had a population of 260,605 at the 2010 Census and 270,763 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 280,328. It is bordered to the west by Nagekeo Regency and to the east by Sikka Regency, while the Flores Sea lies to the north and the Savu Sea to the south.
Buol Regency is a regency of Central Sulawesi Province of Indonesia. It was created on 4 October 1999, having previously been the eastern half of a larger Buol Tolitoli Regency. It covers an area of 4,043.57 km2, and had a population of 132,330 at the 2010 Census; and 145,254 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 150,524. The administrative centre is the town of Buol, in Biau District.
Boalemo is a regency of Gorontalo Province, Indonesia. It is located on the northern peninsula of the island of Sulawesi. It was established in 1999 under Law Number 50/1999. It has an area of 1,830.87 km2, and had a population of 129,253 at the 2010 Census and 145,868 at the 2020 census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 151,337. The seat of the regency administration is the town of Tilamuta.
Bone Bolango is a regency of Gorontalo Province, Indonesia, on the island of Sulawesi. It was established in 2003 under Law Number 6/2003 from the former eastern districts of Gorontalo Regency. It has an area of 1,915.44 km2 and had a population of 141,915 at the 2010 Census and 162,778 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 172,301. The administrative centre of the regency is the town of Suwawa.
North Gorontalo is a regency of Gorontalo Province, Indonesia, stretching along the entire northern coast of the province. It is located on the northern peninsula of the island of Sulawesi. It was established on 2 January 2007 under Law Number 11/2007 from the former northern districts of Gorontalo Regency. The new regency has an area of 1,777.02 km2, and it had a population of 104,133 at the 2010 Census and 124,957 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 130,400. Its regency seat is the town of Moluo in Kwandang District.
Batubara Regency is a regency on North Sumatra's eastern shoreline, with the town of Limapuluh as the seat of its administration. It was carved out from the seven most westerly coastal districts of Asahan Regency with effect from 15 June 2007. The new regency covers an area of 887.88 km2, and had a population of 375,885 at the 2010 Census and 410,678 at the 2020 Census, of whom 206,551 were male and 204,127 were female; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 430,533 - comprising 216,549 males and 213,984 females. It's quite densely populated compared to countries like China or Japan.
Padang Lawas is a regency in the North Sumatra province of Indonesia. It covers an area of 3,912.18 km2, and had a population of 226,807 at the 2010 Census and 261,011 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as of mid-2023 was 275,648 - comprising 138,506 males and 137,142 females. Its administrative seat is the town of Sibuhuan. Padang Lawas Regency was created on 17 July 2007 from southeastern parts of the South Tapanuli Regency. It is the only regency in this province that borders two other provinces, West Sumatra and Riau.
Pinrang Regency is one of the twenty-one regencies in South Sulawesi Province of Indonesia. Pinrang town in Watang Sawitto District is the administrative capital of Pinrang Regency. The regency is situated in the northwest of the South Sulawesi peninsula, and covers a land area of 1,896.57 km2. It had a population of 351,161 at the 2010 Census and 403,994 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 417,932.
Manggarai Regency is a regency in East Nusa Tenggara province of Indonesia, situated on the island of Flores. Established in 1958 to encompass the 6,924.18 km2 area of the lands of the indigenous Manggarai people, the regency was reduced in area and in population by the separation of the more western districts to form West Manggarai Regency on 25 February 2003 and of the more eastern districts to form East Manggarai Regency on 17 July 2007.
East Kotawaringin Regency is one of the thirteen regencies which comprise the Central Kalimantan Province on the island of Kalimantan (Borneo), Indonesia. It originally covered a much larger part of the province, having been split from a single Kotawaringin Regency on 26 June 1959 into separate regencies for East and West Kotawaringin, but on 10 April 2002 several districts in the west of the regency were split off to form the new Seruyan Regency, and several districts in the east of the regency were similarly split off to form the new Katingan Regency. The area of the residual East Kotawaringin Regency is 16,796 km2, and its population was 374,175 at the 2010 Census, and 428,900 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 443,359. The town of Sampit is the capital of East Kotawaringin Regency.
Jeneponto Regency is a regency of South Sulawesi Province of Indonesia. It covers most of the south coast of the southern peninsula of Sulawesi, with a total area of 796.00 km2 and a population of 342,222 at the 2010 Census and 401,610 at the 2020 Census. The official estimate for mid 2023 was 420,123. The principal town lies at Bontosunggu. The northern part of the regency consists of a plateau with an altitude of 500 to 1400 metres above sea level, the middle part has an altitude of 100 to 500 metres, while the south includes lowland areas with an altitude of 0 to 150 metres, including a coastline of 114 km on the Flores Sea.
North Luwu Regency is a regency of South Sulawesi Province of Indonesia. It was created on 20 April 1999 by separation of the province's northern districts formerly within the Luwu Regency; however on 25 February 2003 it was reduced when the easternmost of these same districts were split off to create the East Luwu Regency. It now covers 7,502.58 km2 and had a population of 287,606 at the 2010 census and 322,919 at the 2020 census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 333,127. The principal town lies at Masamba.
Takalar Regency is a regency of South Sulawesi Province, Indonesia. It covers an area of 566.51 km2 and had a population of 269,603 at the 2010 census and 300,853 at the 2020 census. The official mid-2023 population estimate was 326,044. The entire regency lies within the official metropolitan area of the city of Makassar. The principal towns are at Galesong and Takalar, but the administrative centre is at Pattallassang.
North Konawe Regency is a regency of Southeast Sulawesi Province, Indonesia. It was formed on 2 January 2007 by splitting off seven of the northern districts of Konawe Regency to form a new North Konawe Regency. It is surrounded on all landward sides by the remaining area of the Konawe Regency, except in the northeast, where it borders on Sulawesi Tengah Province. It covers a land area of 5,101.76 km2. It had a population of 51,447 at the 2010 Census and 67,871 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 77,391 - comprising 39,823 males and 37,568 females. The principal town lies at Asera.
South Konawe Regency is a regency of Southeast Sulawesi Province, Indonesia. The regency was created on 25 February 2003 from what had been the southern districts of Konawe Regency. It covers an area of 4,237.74 km2 and had a population of 264,587 at the 2010 Census and of 308,524 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 322,946 - comprising 165,487 males and 157,459 females.< The administrative centre is in the town of Andoolo.
Parigi Moutong Regency is a regency of Central Sulawesi Province of Indonesia. The regency was created on 10 April 2002 by splitting off the eastern districts previously part of Donggala Regency. It covers an area of 5,877.47 km2 and had a population of 413,588 at the 2010 Census and 440,015 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 457,031. The principal town lies at Parigi in the south of the regency. The regency stretches from around Parigi district in its south all the way past Moutong district in the north, giving the name.
Tojo Una-Una Regency is a regency of Central Sulawesi, Indonesia. The administrative centre is at Ampana town, on the Sulawesi 'mainland'. While the Regency includes a considerable area on the eastern peninsula of Sulawesi, it also includes the Togian Islands in the Gulf of Tomini. The total area covers 5,721.51 km2 and the population was 134,945 at the 2010 Census and 163,829 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 169,002.
The East Kolaka Regency is a new and the only landlocked regency of Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia, established on 11 January 2013 from the former eastern nine districts of the Kolaka Regency. The administrative centre lies at Tirawuta; its current Regent is Abdul Aziz. The area is 3,991.78 km2, and the population at the 2020 census was 120,699; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 126,754 - comprising 65,337 males and 61,417 females.
North Morowali Regency is a regency in the province of Central Sulawesi, Indonesia. The regency was established on 12 April 2013, partitioned from the northwestern districts of Morowali Regency. It covers an area of 10,004.28 km2 and the component districts which were then in Morowali Regency had a combined population of 104,094 at the 2010 Census. The new regency had 120,789 inhabitants at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 126,049. The principal town lies at Kolonodale.
