The Great Southern Football League (GSFL) is an Australian rules football competition based in the Fleurieu Peninsula region of South Australia, Australia. It is an affiliated member of the South Australian National Football League and is zoned to the South Adelaide Football Club.

History

Although football was played in the area in the 1870s, with the Goolwa club dating themselves from 1878, it was not until 1923 that the Great Southern Football Association was formed. The founding clubs were Encounter Bay, Goolwa, Hindmarsh Valley, Port Elliot and Victor Harbour.

Since that time a number of clubs have formed part of the association, which itself changed its name to the Great Southern Football League. Current member clubs include Willunga, which is one of the oldest football clubs in South Australia, tracing its history back to 1874.^[1]

The Hills Football League (HFL) is an Australian rules football league, situated in the Adelaide Hills region of South Australia, to the south east of the state capital Adelaide.

The Yorke Peninsula Football League (YPFL) is an Australian rules football competition based in the Yorke Peninsula region of South Australia, Australia. It is an affiliated member of the South Australian National Football League. The league was known as the Yorke Valley Football League until 1996, having previously absorbed the Yorke Peninsula Football Association in 1961, and the Southern Yorke Peninsula Football League in 1994.

The Kangaroo Island Football League (KIFL) is an Australian rules football competition based on Kangaroo Island in South Australia, Australia. It is an affiliated member of the South Australian National Football League and is zoned to the South Adelaide Football Club.

The Kowree-Naracoorte-Tatiara Football League is an Australian rules football competition based in the Limestone Coast region of South Australia, Australia. It is an affiliated member of the South Australian National Football League. One unusual aspect of the league is that it includes clubs from both South Australia and Victoria. The 2018–21 league medalist was Darcy “Sauce” Boyanton.

The Port Lincoln Football League is an Australian rules football competition based at the southern extremity of the Eyre Peninsula region of South Australia, Australia. It is an affiliated member of the South Australian National Football League. Port Lincoln Football League games are officiated by the Port Lincoln Football League Umpires Association.

Hendrick Stanbury "Taffy" Waye was an Australian rules footballer who played with Sturt in the South Australian Football Association (SAFA) during the early 1900s.

The Great Southern Football League is an Australian rules football league based in the state of Western Australia, incorporating teams from towns located within the Great Southern region. The league was formed in 1991 after an amalgamation of the Southern Districts and Central Great Southern Football League Leagues in 1991. All but Denmark and Dumbleyung formed teams in the initial season of the league. There are currently 6 teams covering all tiers of the league.

The Aldinga Football Club is an Australian rules football club that was a foundation member of the Southern Football Association in 1886. From 1927 to 1932, Aldinga won a record 6 premierships in a row in the Southern Football Association. In 1901 Aldinga was involved in a brief merger with the Sellick's Hill F.C. to form the Hills United Football Club.

The Willunga Football Club is an Australian rules football club first formed on 29 May 1874, making it one of the oldest football clubs in South Australia behind Port Adelaide which was established in 1870.

The Lovelock Shield, officially known as the Southern Football Championships, was an annual competition held between representative teams from the four leagues in the Southern Zone of South Australian Country Football. The Lovelock Shield was established in 1953 between the Hills Football Association, Hills Central Football Association, Southern Football Association and the Great Southern Football League. The shield was presented by the inaugural president of the Southern Football Championships, Mr. C. K. (Pete) Lovelock.

The Mount Compass Football Club is an Australian rules football club first formed in 1924 and based in Mount Compass, South Australia. The club currently competes in the Great Southern Football League.

The Times, also known as The Victor Harbor Times, is a newspaper published weekly in Victor Harbor, South Australia, since August 1912. Its title has, as with most regional newspapers, undergone a series of name changes and simplifications over its history. It was later sold to Rural Press, previously owned by Fairfax Media, but now an Australian media company trading as Australian Community Media.

Langhorne Creek Football Club is an Australian rules football club based in Langhorne Creek, South Australia that currently competes in the Great Southern Football League. The club plays its home games at Langhorne Creek Memorial Park which is located at Murray Road, Langhorne Creek.
