The Great Southern Football League (GSFL) is an Australian rules football competition based in the Fleurieu Peninsula region of South Australia, Australia. It is an affiliated member of the South Australian National Football League and is zoned to the South Adelaide Football Club.

History

Although football was played in the area in the 1870s, with the Goolwa club dating themselves from 1878, it was not until 1923 that the Great Southern Football Association was formed. The founding clubs were Encounter Bay, Goolwa, Hindmarsh Valley, Port Elliot and Victor Harbour.

Since that time a number of clubs have formed part of the Association, which itself changed its name to the Great Southern Football League. Current member clubs include Willunga, which is one of the oldest football clubs in South Australia, tracing its history back to 1874.^[1]

The Willunga Football Club is an Australian rules football club first formed on 29 May 1874, making it the second oldest constituted football club in South Australia behind Port Adelaide.

The Yankalilla Football Club is an Australian rules football club first formed in 1889 in Yankalilla, South Australia. Yankalilla was originally a member of the Fleurieu Football Association until it joined the Great Southern Football Association in 1935.

The Lovelock Shield, officially known as the Southern Football Championships, was an annual competition held between representative teams from the four leagues in the Southern Zone of South Australian Country Football. The Lovelock Shield was established in 1953 between the Hills Football Association, Hills Central Football Association, Southern Football Association and the Great Southern Football League. The shield was presented by the inaugural president of the Southern Football Championships, Mr. C. K. (Pete) Lovelock.

The Mount Compass Football Club is an Australian rules football club first formed in 1924 and based in Mount Compass, South Australia. The club currently competes in the Great Southern Football League.

The Macclesfield Football Club is an Australian rules football club first formed in 1880.

The Times, also known as The Victor Harbor Times, is a newspaper published weekly in Victor Harbor, South Australia, since August 1912. Its title has, as with most regional newspapers, undergone a series of name changes and simplifications over its history. It was later sold to Rural Press, previously owned by Fairfax Media, but now an Australian media company trading as Australian Community Media.

The Encounter Bay Football Club, nicknamed the Eagles, is an Australian rules football club based in Encounter Bay, South Australia, that plays in the Great Southern Football League.

Langhorne Creek Football Club is an Australian rules football club based in Langhorne Creek, South Australia that currently competes in the Great Southern Football League. The club plays its home games at Langhorne Creek Memorial Park which is located at Murray Road, Langhorne Creek.
