Charles Batchelor, better known by his online name Grian, is a British YouTuber, who is primarily known for creating Minecraft content. [2] As of December 2024, his main channel has over 8.6 million subscribers and 2.5 billion views. [3]

Career

Wynncraft

Batchelor, alongside Francis Mailloux and Isaac Pohl-Zaretsky, founded Wynncraft, a fantasy massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), which launched on 6 July 2013. [4]

Wynncraft received generally positive reviews. [5] [6] On 4 July 2017, Guinness World Records recognized Wynncraft as the largest MMORPG created within Minecraft. [4]

Hermitcraft

Batchelor joined Hermitcraft on 19 July 2018, and has since become one of the most well-known members of the server. [7] Hermitcraft is a private, invite-only, Minecraft server. It's one of the most famous Minecraft servers, even being featured by Mojang during various events in the past. Hermitcraft also works with charities such as the Gamers Outreach Foundation, the Make a Wish Foundation, and SOS Africa; many of which Batchelor has co-hosted events for. [8] [9] [10]

Life Series

In 2021, Grian launched the Life Series, a collaborative Minecraft series featuring 14 other YouTubers. The first season, titled 3rd Life, premiered in April of that year. Grian described the series as "experimental hardcore with a twist." The success of 3rd Life led to the creation of several following seasons: Last Life, Double Life, Limited Life, and Secret Life. The series finished airing its sixth season, titled Wild Life, in December 2024. [11]

MC Championship

Batchelor is a regular contestant of MC Championship, one of the biggest Minecraft competitive tournaments which began in 2019. Batchelor and his team won the 17th MC Championship in September 2021. Batchelor has gotten to dodgebolt, a best-of-five game that determines the winner of the event, multiple times. [12]

Other activities

In July 2022, Xbox collaborated with the National Trust to recreate Corfe Castle in Minecraft. The build, created by Batchelor with the help of archaeologist Martin Papworth, was launched ahead of the National Trust's Festival of Archaeology. [13] [14] [15] [16] [17]

Born in Manchester, Cassell had passion for a career in the gaming industry, which he started by purchasing gaming equipment using his money from McDonald's. On 3 September 2010, Cassell registered his gaming channel "TheSyndicateProject", where he found success and an online community. His prominence online was recognized by Call of Duty publisher Activision and multi-channel network (MCN) Machinima, where he signed to the network to monetize his content. Cassell's channel achieved substantial growth, passing one million subscribers in June 2012 and one billion views in late 2013. He further expanded his career into livestreaming on Twitch, hosting the same commentary over his gameplays. His Twitch channel became the first to reach one million followers in August 2014.
