East Dorset was a local government district in Dorset, England. Its council met in Wimborne Minster between 2016 and 2019.
Cranborne is a village in East Dorset, England. In 2001 the village had a population of 779 people, unaltered at the 2011 Census. The appropriate electoral ward is called 'Crane'. This ward includes Wimborne St. Giles in the west and south to Woodlands. The total population of this ward at the 2011 census was 2,189. The town is situated on chalk downland called Cranborne Chase, part of a large expanse of chalk in southern England which includes the nearby Salisbury Plain and Dorset Downs.

Its extreme length makes it a notable example of this class of linear earthwork; it is better interpreted as a pair of same-length cursus constructed end to end, with the more southerly cursus pre-dating the northerly one.
Ashmore is a village and civil parish in the North Dorset district of Dorset, England, situated 20 miles (32 km) south-west of Salisbury. The village is centred on a circular pond and consists of a church and several stone cottages and farms, many with thatched roofs. It is the highest village in the county. The pond or "mere" is what gave the village its original name of "Ashmere". In the 2011 census the parish had a population of 188.
Wimborne St Giles is a village in east Dorset, England, situated on Cranborne Chase seven miles north of Wimborne Minster and 12 miles north of Poole. The village has a population of 366 (2001). The village rests within the Shaftesbury estate, owned by the Earl of Shaftesbury. A tributary of the River Allen, formerly known as the Wimborne, snakes its way through the village.
Compton Abbas is a village and civil parish in the county of Dorset in southern England. It lies within the North Dorset administrative district, 3 miles (4.8 km) south of the town of Shaftesbury. It is sited on greensand strata on the edge of the Blackmore Vale, below the chalk downs of Cranborne Chase. On top of these hills is Compton Abbas Airfield. The A350 road between Wiltshire and the south coast passes through the village. In the 2011 census the civil parish had a population of 216. The name Compton Abbas derives from the Saxon "cumb-ton", meaning 'village in a narrow valley', plus "abbas" which refers to Shaftesbury Abbey. The church, St. Mary's, was built in 1866 to replace the older structure which was more remote from the village.

The stream runs through all three parishes: Gussage All Saints, population 192, Gussage St Michael, pop. 219 and Gussage St Andrew, population unknown, but smaller than the other two villages.

Sixpenny Handley or Handley is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Sixpenny Handley and Pentridge, in north east Dorset, England, situated on Cranborne Chase ten miles (16 km) north east of Blandford Forum. In the 2011 census the parish had a population of 1,233. The civil parish was abolished on 1 April 2015 and merged with Pentridge to form Sixpenny Handley and Pentridge.
Tarrant Monkton is a village and civil parish in north Dorset, England, situated in the Tarrant Valley about 4 miles (6.4 km) ENE of Blandford Forum. Within the parish boundary, sited 1.5 miles over hills to the west, lies the major part of Blandford Camp army base. In the 2011 census the parish—including the army base—had a population of 1,986. The village is centred on the All Saints Parish Church, opposite which is the Langton Arms, a public house and restaurant.

Gussage All Saints is a village and parish in the county of Dorset in southern England. It lies within the East Dorset administrative district of the county, about 8 miles north-east of the town of Blandford Forum. It is sited by the side of a small stream in a shallow valley on the lower dip slope of Cranborne Chase. Ackling Dyke, a disused Roman road, crosses the valley to the northwest, and forms the parish boundary at that point.
Ackling Dyke is a section of Roman road in England which runs for 22 miles (35 km) southwest from Old Sarum (Sorviodunum) to the hill fort at Badbury Rings (Vindocladia). Part of the road on Oakley Down has been scheduled as an ancient monument.
