The FISU World University Games, formerly the Universiade, is an international multi-sport event, organized for university athletes by the International University Sports Federation (FISU). The former name is a portmanteau of the words "University" and "Olympiad".
The 2007 Summer Universiade officially known as the XXIV Summer Universiade and commonly known as Bangkok Universiade, was an international multi-sport for university athletes that took place from 8 to 18 August 2007 in Bangkok, Thailand, with preliminary events in some sports beginning on 7 August. Bangkok also hosted the Asian Games in 1966, 1970, 1978 and 1998.

In aerobic gymnastics, mixed pairs, trios, group, aero-dance, and aero-step competitions were held.

Gymnastics is a sport at the World University Games that was first contested in 1961 as an optional sport and turned compulsory sport in 1963 and since then it has been out of the program twice in 1975 and 1989. In 1973, for the first time a competition in apparatus was added to the program and would become mandatory in 1979. In 1991, rhythmic gymnastics was one of the two optional sports chosen by the organizers and was present with the same status in 1995 in 1997, becoming a compulsory sport in 2001. At the 2011 edition, aerobic gymnastics was also part of the program.

Ukraine competed at the 2019 Summer Universiade in Naples, Italy, that was held from 3 to 14 July 2019. 160 Ukrainian athletes competed in archery, athletics, basketball, diving, fencing, football, gymnastics, judo, swimming, taekwondo, tennis, and volleyball. Ukraine was not represented in rugby sevens, sailing, shooting, table tennis and water polo. The team won 20 medals, 6 of which were gold, and for the first time finished outside Top-10.
