Artistic gymnastics is a discipline of gymnastics in which athletes perform short routines on different types of apparatus. The sport is governed by the Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG),which assigns the Code of Points used to score performances and regulates all aspects of elite international competition. Within individual countries,gymnastics is regulated by national federations such as British Gymnastics and USA Gymnastics. Artistic gymnastics is a popular spectator sport at many competitions,including the Summer Olympic Games.

Kurt Bilteaux Thomas was an American Olympic gymnast and part-time actor. He was a member of the United States men's national artistic gymnastics team and in 1978 he became the first American male gymnast to win a gold medal at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. In 1979,he won six medals at the world championship,setting the record for most medals won at a single world championship by an American gymnast,a feat matched only by Simone Biles in 2018. He competed in the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal. Thomas was favored to win a medal at the 1980 Summer Olympics but was unable to compete due to the USA boycott of the 1980 Olympic Games.
Akinori Nakayama is a Japanese gymnast and Olympic gold medalist. Nakayama was born in Nagoya,Aichi Prefecture,and is a graduate of Chukyo University in Nagoya. Nakayama is one of only two gymnasts to become an Olympic Champion in rings twice,the first to do so being Albert Azaryan.

Chen was part of the Chinese team that won the gold medal in the team event at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in 2006,2007,2010 and 2011 and the Asian Games in 2006 and 2010. Since his international debut at the 2006 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships,he was almost unbeatable on his specialist event,still rings,except to his teammate Yan Mingyong in 2009 and the Brazilian Arthur Nabarrete Zanetti at the 2012 Summer Olympics. He became the 2006,2007,2010 and 2011 world champions on still rings.

Yuri Nikolayevich Korolyov was a Soviet artistic gymnast who competed during the 1980s,winning many World and European Medals. Part of a deep Soviet team that,throughout the 1980s,featured such names as Dmitry Bilozerchev,Valeri Liukin,Vladimir Artemov,Valentin Mogilny,and others,Korolyov still managed to distinguish himself for the greater part of the decade by becoming World All-Around Champion in 1981 and 1985,as well as being World Cup All-Around Co-Champion in 1986,among many other titles and medals.
Frank Josef Kriz was an American gymnast and Olympic champion. A was a member of the New York Sokol and the Bohemian Gymnastic Association. He was a member of the United States men's national artistic gymnastics team and competed in the 1920,1924,and 1928 Summer Olympics. In 1924,he received a gold medal in vault. In 1922 and 1924,he won the Amateur Athletic Union national gymnastics title. In 1959,he was one of the initial inductees to the USA Gymnastics Hall of Fame.
George Julius Gulack was an American gymnast and Olympic champion and was involved in gymnastics administration for both the American Athletic Union and the Olympic Committee. He was a member of the United States men's national artistic gymnastics team and competed at the 1932 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles where he received a gold medal on the rings.

Yukio Endō was a Japanese artistic gymnast,Olympic champion and world champion. He was part of the first Japanese team that succeeded to win gold medals in the team event at the Summer Olympics (1960) and World Championships (1962). In 1964 he won the first individual all-around Olympic gold medal for Japan. He was the flag bearer at the 1968 Summer Olympics.
Jiang Yuyuan is a retired Chinese gymnast. She is the 2008 Chinese all-around senior National Champion and a member of the gold medal-winning People's Republic of China team for the 2008 Summer Olympics. Jiang was a member of the silver medal-winning Chinese team at the 2007 World Championships,the bronze medal-winning member at the 2010 World Championships and 2011 World Championships,and the all-around gold medalist at the 2007 Good Luck Beijing Olympic test event. In 2010,she replaced Cheng Fei as the captain of the Chinese national team. She won a silver medal in the all-around competition at the 2010 World Championships,which is the highest position that a Chinese woman has ever placed in the all-around competition at a world or Olympic championship.

The 2008 Summer Olympics cauldron is the Olympic flame holder that was used during the 2008 Summer Olympics and the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing,China. It was first lit on August 8,2008,as part of the opening ceremony of the Games of the XXIX Olympiad and last extinguished as part of the closing ceremony of the games of the Paralympics on September 17. Originally located on the inside roof of the Beijing National Stadium,it was relocated to outside the stadium on the Olympic Green following the completion of the Games.
