The floor (or floor exercise) is an artistic gymnastics event held at the Summer Olympics. The event was first held for men at the 1932 Olympic Games. [1] For women it was first held in 1952.

Gymnastics is a sport that includes physical exercises requiring balance, strength, flexibility, agility, coordination, and endurance. The movements involved in gymnastics contribute to the development of the arms, legs, shoulders, back, chest, and abdominal muscle groups. Gymnastics evolved from exercises used by the ancient Greeks that included skills for mounting and dismounting a horse, and from circus performance skills.
At the 1900 Summer Olympics one gymnastics event for men was contested. The competition was held on Sunday, 29 July 1900, and on Monday, 30 July 1900. There were 135 competitors from 8 nations. The top 18 places were taken by French gymnasts, of which there were more than 100. The event was won by Gustave Sandras, with Noël Bas finishing second and Lucien Démanet third. The highest-placing foreign gymnast was Jules Ducret of Switzerland, in a tie for 19th place.
Vanessa Ferrari is an Italian artistic gymnast. She was the 2006 World All-Around Champion and competed for Italy at the 2008, 2012, 2016, and 2020 Summer Olympics, winning a silver medal on floor exercise in 2020. In doing so, Ferrari became the first Italian to win an individual Olympic medal in Women's Artistic Gymnastics, and the first medallist for the Italian women's team since the 1928 Summer Olympics. She is a five-time World medalist and eight-time European medalist, and is currently the most decorated Italian gymnast of all-time.
Lauren Mitchell is a retired Australian artistic gymnast. She is the 2010 World Champion on floor and the 2009 World Championships silver medalist on balance beam and floor. Mitchell is only the second Australian female gymnast to win a medal at the World Championships, and she is the first to win a gold medal. She is the 2010 Commonwealth Games champion in the all-around, uneven bars, balance beam, and with the Australian team. She also represented Australia at the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games.
The men's artistic individual all-around was an artistic gymnastics event held as part of the gymnastics at the 1920 Summer Olympics programme. It was the fifth appearance of the event. The competition was held on Wednesday, 25 August 1920. 25 gymnasts from seven nations competed. Nations had been limited to 6 gymnasts each since 1912. The event was won by Giorgio Zampori of Italy, the nation's third consecutive victory in the men's individual all-around. France's Marco Torrès took silver and Jean Gounot earned bronze, stretching the French podium streak to three Games as well.

The competition was held from Monday, August 8, 1932, to Wednesday, August 10, 1932. Twenty-four gymnasts from five nations competed. Each nation could enter a team of 5 gymnasts; Hungary sent only 4. The event was won by Romeo Neri of Italy, the nation's first victory in the event since 1920 and fourth overall. István Pelle of Hungary took silver and Heikki Savolainen of Finland earned bronze; it was the first medal in the event for each nation.
Larisa Andreea Iordache is a Romanian artistic gymnast. She is the current leader of the Romanian women's artistic gymnastics team, and represented Romania at the 2012 and 2020 Olympic Games.
Giulia Steingruber is a retired Swiss artistic gymnast. She is the 2016 Olympic and 2017 World bronze medalist on vault. Additionally she is the 2015 European all-around champion, a four-time European vault champion and the 2016 European floor exercise champion.
MyKayla Brooke Skinner Harmer is a retired American artistic gymnast. She is the 2020 Olympic vault silver medalist. She was previously an alternate for the 2016 Olympic team. Skinner competed at the 2014 World Championships where she contributed to the U.S. team's gold medal, also winning an individual bronze medal on vault. She has won 11 total medals at the USA National Championships during her senior career and competed for the University of Utah's gymnastics team and is a two-time NCAA champion.
Lauren Zoe Hernandez is an American artistic gymnast. During her debut year as a senior gymnast, she competed as a member of the U.S. women's gymnastics team dubbed the "Final Five" at the 2016 Summer Olympics; Ultimately, the U.S. won gold in the team event. In the individual events, Hernandez earned the silver medal on the balance beam. She returned to training in late 2018 and expressed interest in making a comeback to earn a spot on the U.S. women's gymnastic team for the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.
Angelina Romanovna Melnikova is a Russian artistic gymnast. With eleven Olympic and World medals, she is the joint third-most decorated Russian gymnast of all time. At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, she led the Russian Olympic Committee to gold in the team competition. She previously represented Russia at the 2016 Summer Olympics, winning a silver medal in the team competition. She was also a member of the gold medal-winning Russian teams at the 2016 and 2018 European Championships, and the silver medal-winning Russian teams at the 2018 and 2019 World Championships.
Rebeca Rodrigues de Andrade is a Brazilian artistic gymnast and two-time Olympian, having represented Brazil at the 2016 and 2020 Olympic Games. She is the 2020 Olympic vault champion, the 2021 World vault champion, the 2020 Olympic all-around silver medalist, and the 2021 Pan American all-around champion. She was a member of the teams that won gold at the 2021 Pan American Championships and silver at the 2018 Pan American Championships. Andrade is the first Brazilian female artistic gymnast to medal at an Olympic Games and the first Olympic all-around medalist who qualified as an individual. She is only the second Brazilian female to win a gold medal at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships.

Jade Ashtyn Carey is an American artistic gymnast who represented the United States at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. She is the 2020 Olympic champion on floor exercise. She was a member of the teams that won gold at the 2019 World Championships and the 2018 Pan American Championships. Individually on vault she is the 2017 and 2019 World silver medalist, the 2018 Pan American champion, and the 2017 United States national champion. On floor exercise she is the 2017 World silver medalist and the 2018 Pan American champion. She is a five-time member of the United States women's national gymnastics team (2017–present).
Artem Olegovich Dolgopyat is a Ukrainian-born Israeli artistic gymnast. Dolgopyat is the 2020 Olympic champion on floor exercise. He won two silver medals at the 2017 and 2019 World Championships on the floor exercise and is the 2020 European champion of that exercise.
The men's floor event at the 2020 Summer Olympics was held on 24 July and 1 August 2021 at the Ariake Gymnastics Centre. Approximately 70 gymnasts from 35 nations competed on floor in the qualifying round.

Viktoria Viktorovna Listunova is a Russian artistic gymnast. She represented the Russian Olympic Committee at the 2020 Summer Olympics and won the gold medal in the team event. She was a member of the team that won gold at the inaugural Junior World Championships. Individually, she is the 2019 Junior World all-around and floor exercise champion, the 2021 European all-around champion, and the 2021 Russian National Champion.
Shane Wiskus is an American artistic gymnast who represented the United States at the 2020 Summer Olympics. Additionally he represented the United States at the 2019 World Championships and is a three-time NCAA Champion.
