Han Yu (born 1992) is a Chinese professional pool player. She is a three time WPA World Nine-ball Championship women's champion, winning the event in 2013, 2016 and 2018. Han is also a semi-finalist in three further world championships, in 2017 in the nine-ball event, and 2011 and 2014 in ten-ball. [1]

Career

Han Yu picked up the game of pool aged six following her father to a pool hall. She first appeared at a major pool event in 2007 as she won the China national nine-ball championship aged 15. [2] She also reached the semi-finals of the All Japan Championship, before winning the event in 2009. [3] [4] [5] In 2011, Han reached the semi-final of the WPA World Ten-ball Championship, losing to winner Kelly Fisher 9–4, [6] and later in the year lost again in the semi-final of the All Japan Championship to Bi Zhu-Qing. [7]

In 2013, Han became a world champion for the first time, winning the WPA World Nine-ball Championship. She defeated Fisher and Tan Ho-yun to reach the final, where she defeated Yuan-chun Lin 9–1. [8] [9] [10] After winning the championships, Han began to pack up her cue, and did not celebrate. [11] Han was then surrounded by fans asking for autographs and photographs, and broke into tears when her mother arrived. [11] The following year, Han reached the semi-finals of the WPA World Ten-ball Championship, but lost to Kelly Fisher again. [12]

In 2016, Han reached the semi-finals of the Amway Cup and was defeated 8–9 there by the eventual champion, Chezka Centeno. [13] Two months later, she completed a 9–8 final victory over Liu Shasha in the China Open. In December 2016, Han won her second world championship with a 9–7 victory in the final against Chihiro Kawahara. [14] Han won her third world championship in 2018, winning the nine-ball final over Wang Xiao Tong. [14] [15]

Han Yu was picked as eighth seed for the 2019 World Pool Masters, missing the preliminary round but lost 6–7 to Shane Van Boening in the first round. [16]

Daryl Peach is an English professional pool player, from Lancashire, who resides in Blackpool, England. He won the 2007 WPA World Nine-ball Championship, where he defeated the Philippines' Roberto Gomez 17–15 in the final to become the first British player to win the WPA World Nine-ball Championship.

The 2018 WPA World Nine-ball Championship was a 9-Ball pool world Championships. The event took place between December 10 to 20, 2018 in the al-Attiya Sports Arena of the Al-Arabi Sports Club in Doha, Qatar. The Qatari capital held the event for the eighth time in a row.

Ko Pin-yi is a Taiwanese professional pool player. He became multiple World Champion in the disciplines of Nine-ball and Ten-ball in 2015.

The 2012 WPA World Nine-ball Championship was a professional nine-ball pocket billiards (pool) championship, sanctioned by the World Pool-Billiard Association (WPA) and organised by Matchroom Sport. It was held from June 22 to 29 in Doha, Qatar, hosted by the Qatar Billiards and Snooker Federation. Qualifying tournaments were held from June 20 to 22, with the Al Sadd Sports Club hosting both qualifying and final tournaments.

The 2019 WPA World Ten-ball Championship was a professional pool tournament for the discipline of ten-ball organised by the World Pool-Billiard Association (WPA) and CueSports International. It was the fifth WPA World Ten-ball Championship; the previous championship was held in 2015. After plans for an event in both 2016 and 2018 to be held in Manila fell through, a 2019 event at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas as part of a three-year deal for the event to be played in the United States was agreed. The event was held concurrently with the Billiard Congress of America's National Ten-ball event from July 22 to 26. The event was sponsored by cue manufacturer Predator Group.

The WPA 10-Ball World Championship 2015 was the fourth edition of the WPA World 10-ball Championship, the world championship for the discipline of 10-ball pool. It took place from February 17 to 21, 2015 at the SM City Activity Center in General Santos, Philippines.

Huidji See is a Dutch professional pool and billiards player. He was the 2011 WPA World 10-Ball Pool Champion.

Joshua Filler is a German professional pool player from Bönen, Germany. In 2018 Filler defeated Carlo Biado 13–10 to win the 2018 WPA World Nine-ball Championship. In 2017 he was the youngest player to win the China Open, and in 2018 he also won the 10-ball European Pool Championships. Filler became WPA and Euro Tour world number 1 in 2019, and later he reached the final of the 2019 WPA World Ten-ball Championship before losing 10–7 to Ko Ping-chung.

Liu Haitao is a Chinese professional pool player. Haitao reached the semi-final of the 2012 WPA World Eight-ball Championship, and the 2013 World Games. Haitao won the doubles event at the 2017 Asian Indoor Games; alongside snooker player Lyu Haotian.

Alexander Kazakis is a Greek professional pool player. Kazakis is a former European 10-ball champion, and regular 9-ball player. In 2018, he was the number one ranked player by the World Pool-Billiard Association.

Cheng Yu-hsuan, also sometimes known as Kevin Cheng is a Taiwanese professional pool player, representing Chinese Taipei. Yu-Hsuan reached world number 1 in 9-Ball in 2016, following winning U.S. Open 9-Ball Championships in 2015. He also reached the semi-finals of the 2016 WPA World Nine-ball Championship; where he would lose to Shane Van Boening 11–9.

Naoyuki Ōi is a Japanese professional pool player. Ōi is best known for finishing second in the World Ten-ball Championship twice, and represented Japan at the World Cup of Pool on six occasions.

Kristina Olegovna Tkach is a Russian professional pool player. She became the 2017 WPA World Nine-ball Junior Championship winner, defeating Lee Woo-jin in the final 9–6. Tkach is a four time European champion having won the eight-ball event in 2016 and 2019, as well as Straight pool in 2017 and 2019. In addition, she is a nine-time Junior European Champion.

The WPA Women's World Nine-ball Championship is an annual Pool tournament in the discipline of Nine-ball. The most successful player is Allison Fisher from England, who won the tournament in 1996, 1997, 1998 and 2001. The women's tournament usually takes place in a different place than the men's world championship.
