Handball competition of the 2018 South American Games in Cochabamba were held from May 27 to June 6 at the Coliseo Municipal Curubamba in the municipality of Sacaba, [1] it qualified two places in both genders to the 2019 Pan American Games.

It also acted as the qualifying competition for the 2013 World Men's Handball Championship, securing three vacancies for the World Championship. A decision was announced during the 2011 Pan American Games that the tournament will consist of 12 teams. As the winner of those Pan American Games, Argentina was selected as the host.

The 2019 IHF World Men's Handball Championship was the 26th event hosted by the International Handball Federation and held in Denmark and Germany from 10 to 27 January 2019. The 2018 South and Central American Women's Handball Championship was the first edition of the South and Central American Women's Handball Championship, which took place in Maceió, Brazil from 29 November to 4 December 2018. It acted as the South and Central American qualifying tournament for the 2019 World Women's Handball Championship.

The handball women's tournament at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru was held between 24 and 30 July 2019. Eight nations participated. Brazil won its sixth straight title, directly qualifying to the 2020 Summer Olympics.

The women's tournament was one of two handball tournaments at the 1988 Summer Olympics. It was the fourth appearance of a women's handball tournament at the Olympic Games.

The handball competition of the 2021 Junior Pan American Games in Cali, Colombia was held from 23 November to 4 December at the Iván Vassilev Todorov Arena, the events were played by U23 national teams and awarded one place in both genders to the handball tournament of the 2023 Pan American Games.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Handball at the 2021 Islamic Solidarity Games</span>

The handball tournaments at the 2021 Islamic Solidarity Games in Konya will play between 7 August and 14 August 2021. The handball competition will take place at Selçuklu Municipality International Sports Hall in Konya. 4 teams in 2 groups will play in a single round-robin system with a one-day interval between each other, and the group competitions will be completed in the first 6 days. On Day 7, semi-finals are played an on day 8, the third place and final competitions are played. Group winners and runners-up will be cross-matched in the quarter-finals A1-B2 and A2-B1, Winners compete for Gold, and losers for Bronze Medals.
