Hebrew Academy of Long Beach (HALB) is a Modern Orthodox Jewish day school located on the South Shore of Long Island in New York. Its founding principal was Rabbi Armin H. Friedman in 1954. [2] The name refers back to the presence in Long Beach which ended after its West Broadway location was closed in 2017.

The HALB Elementary School and DRS buildings also serve as a Jewish day camp in the summer called Avnet. [4] Avnet runs on Monday through Friday.

HALB Elementary School moved into the building where School Number Six was previously located during March of the 2016–17 school year. [5]

History

The Hebrew Academy of Long Beach was founded in 1954, its founding principal was Rabbi Armin H. Friedman. [6] The HALB began implementing a blended learning model in its classrooms based on Bloom's taxonomy, [7] as well as social and emotional learning (SEL) training for teachers. [8] As of March 2022, HALB enrolled 1,700 students in its schools. [9]

Phoenix Hebrew Academy is an Orthodox Jewish day school in north central Phoenix, Arizona. Founded in 1965 by Rabbi David Rebibo, who was dean of students since the school's inception until his death in June 2024, it was the first Jewish day school in the region and one of the first outside the New York area. The school has a full dual curriculum of Judaic and general studies. In 2011 it enrolled 170 children in grades K-8.

Binyamin Kamenetsky taught in the 1940s at Yeshiva Toras Chaim. In 1956 he opened Yeshiva Toras Chaim of the South Shore, "the first yeshiva on Long Island." "Seven years later, the two Jewish schools merged and moved to a new campus on William Street in Hewlett."

Yeshiva of South Shore (YOSS) is an American Orthodox boys' and men's yeshiva in Long Island that was opened at a time when the area had no yeshivos, and subsequently expanded to being in need of renting unused public school space. In part, this was due to growth of the local Orthodox Jewish population: The New York Times reported that 90% of those newly moving in were Orthodox Jews.
