Providence Hebrew Day School (commonly referred to as "PHDS") is a K-8 school and the oldest Jewish day school in Rhode Island. The school was founded in 1946, and moved to its current location on Elmgrove Avenue on Providence's East Side in 1962. The current dean of PHDS is Rabbi Peretz Scheinerman.[ citation needed ] The famed Rabbi Mordechai Nissel was its dean from March 97 through July 2003.[ citation needed ] It is affiliated with Orthodox Judaism, but enrolls students who are Jewish of other denominations as well. [1] It is affiliated with New England Academy of Torah, a girls-only high school. [2] High school students from outside of Providence have the option to board with host families during the school year. [3]

Yeshivat Ma'ale Gilboa is a Shiluv Yeshiva located on Kibbutz Ma'ale Gilboa in Israel's Gilboa Mountains. The Shiluv Yeshiva is unique in that it combines two years of Torah study with the full three years of army service. This is in contrast to students from Hesder Yeshivot, which only serve in the army for a year and a half and complete three and a half years of Torah study. The Yeshiva emphasizes a commitment to rigorous Torah study, intellectual openness, intellectual disagreement and social consciousness.
