Heiress is an American band from Seattle, Washington, formed in 2006. Their style blends influences from hardcore punk, heavy metal and post-rock. They signed to Deathwish Inc. in 2010, and released their debut album Early Frost in 2013.

History

Heiress was founded in Seattle, Washington in 2006 by guitarist Wes Reed. [1] [2] Reed originally planned being the only member of Heiress with different people contributing vocals. However, Reed recruited Adam Paysse, the co-founder of Rome Plow Records, [3] [4] who both found drummer Julian Zurdo and bassist Eric Severson, and recorded a demo with producer Ben Verellen (Harkonen, Helms Alee). [1] In December 2008, John Pettibone, formerly of many Seattle-area bands including Himsa and Undertow, took over Paysse's place as lead vocalist. [5] Pettibone's previous band Himsa disbanded because the members were tired of touring. [6] With this lineup, Heiress recorded a five-song self-titled EP that was self-released by the band in 2009.

In 2010, Heiress signed to Deathwish Inc., an independent hardcore punk record label that was co-founded by Jacob Bannon of Converge. The group's first release through the label was a split 7-inch with Narrows. Guitarist Josh Freer joined the band and performed on this release temporarily replacing Jeremy McAllister. [7] [8]

In mid-2011, Jack Endino (Nirvana, Mudhoney, Murder City Devils) produced and engineered 17 new Heiress tracks at Soundhouse Studios. Endino also remixed two previously recorded Heiress songs. Deathwish released two of the songs from these sessions, "Naysayer" and "Just Throats," as a 7-inch vinyl single in 2012. [9] [2] The single featured artwork by Demian Johnston, who previously played with Pettibone in Undertow and Nineironspitfire, [2] and was positively received by Alternative Press . [10] Ten of the remaining tracks from this session became Heiress' full-length debut album titled Early Frost. [9] In October 2011, Early Frost was expected to be released in 2012. [2] However, Deathwish did not end up releasing the album until 2013 due to pressing plant delays. [11] [1]

Heiress released its second studio album Of Great Sorrow on February 10, 2015, through The Mylene Sheath [12] — pushed back four months from its originally projected November 18, 2014, release date. [13] [14] The album was recorded by Tad Doyle of the Seattle-based band Tad and mastered by Chris Hanzsek (Soundgarden, Melvins) with artwork by Demian Johnston. [14] Before the release of Of Great Sorrow, Heiress had already begun working on its third studio album with Matt Bayles (Botch, Isis, Mastodon) for a tentative 2015 release. [14] The band released its third studio album Made Wrong on March 18, 2016, through The Mylene Sheath. [15]

The band, featuring Brian Cook, Dave Knudson, Tim Latona and Dave Verellen, spent four years as a garage band and released several demos and EPs before signing to Hydra Head Records. Through the label, Botch released two studio albums: American Nervoso (1998) and We Are the Romans (1999). The group toured extensively and internationally in support of their albums with liked-minded bands such as The Blood Brothers, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Ink & Dagger and Jesuit. Botch struggled to write a third studio album, and in 2002 the group broke up due to tensions among the band members and creative differences. Hydra Head posthumously released an EP of songs the group had been working on before they split titled An Anthology of Dead Ends and a live album documenting their final show titled 061502 in 2006.

The band chose the name Unbroken because they wanted to emphasize their dedication to the straight edge philosophy of drug abstinence. However, most of the members have since given up this belief.

Deathwish Inc. American independent record label

Deathwish, Inc. is an independent record label conceived by Jacob Bannon of Converge and Tre McCarthy in 2000. Their first release was Deeper the Wound, a split album between Converge and Japanese band Hellchild on April 23, 2001. Deathwish established itself quickly, working with a diverse group of bands and eventually becoming one of the most respected and innovative labels in contemporary hardcore punk and aggressive music in general.

Jack Endino American producer and musician

Jack Endino is an American producer and musician based in Seattle, Washington. Long associated with Seattle label Sub Pop and the grunge movement, Endino worked on seminal albums from bands including Mudhoney, Soundgarden and Nirvana. He was also the guitarist for Seattle band Skin Yard, which was active between 1985 and 1992. Endino currently manages a studio in Seattle called Soundhouse Recording.

Beautiful Son 1993 single by Hole

"Beautiful Son" is a song by American alternative rock band Hole, written collectively by frontwoman Courtney Love, lead guitarist Eric Erlandson and drummer Patty Schemel. The song was released as the band's fourth single in April 1993 on the European label City Slang. To coincide with the song's lyrics, Love used a photograph of her husband, Kurt Cobain, at age 7 as the single's artwork.

Harkonen (band) American post-hardcore band

Harkonen was an American post-hardcore band from Tacoma, Washington, most active between 1997 and 2005.

Himsa was an American heavy metal band from Seattle, Washington. Formed in 1998, their band name is from the Sanskrit word himsa, which means "harm" or "violence".

John Pettibone Musical artist

John Pettibone is the former vocalist for the Seattle metalcore band Himsa. Before joining the band for the 2001 release of the Death Is Infinite EP, Pettibone was the lead vocalist for Undertow, a straight edge hardcore band which was also based in Seattle. He also sang for Nineironspitfire for a short time.

Courting Tragedy And Disaster is the second studio album by American heavy metal band Himsa. It was released on June 17, 2003.

Narrows (band) American mathcore band

Narrows is an American mathcore band based in Seattle, but with members "spread out across both the United States and two continents." The band has been described as a supergroup, as its lineup includes Dave Verellen of Botch and members of bands including Unbroken, These Arms Are Snakes and Bullet Union. Narrows is a part-time band. All members have full-time jobs and are starting their own families.

Tyler Willman, also known as Ty Willman, is an American guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter who lives in Seattle, Washington. He is probably best known for his work with the Seattle-based band Green Apple Quick Step. He briefly fronted the band Devilhead and helped form Calm Down Juanita.

Benjamin James Verellen is an American musician and audio engineer from Tacoma, Washington.

Burke Thomas, also known as Burke Thomas Overdrive, is an American musician and record producer, who is the drummer of Duff McKagan's Loaded and Vendetta Red. Thomas began his career with the band Muzzle, recording on the studio album Betty Pickup in 1996, before forming a solo project entitled Pris, performing all the instruments on the album The Kiss Off, released in 2004.

Painted is the second studio album by the international rock band Narrows. The album was released on February 28, 2012 through Deathwish Inc.
