Hikkaduwa Urban Council (HUC) is a local authority established in 2000 in the Galle District, Southern Province, Sri Lanka covering the town of Hikkaduwa itself, plus 8 villages, on a total surface of 12.83 square kilometers [1] and 27 GN Divisions [2] .

Hikkaduwa Urban Council jurisdiction extends along the coastal zone for about 06 km, and the inland area is about 03 km [3] .

The urban area is the town of Hikkaduwa. The 8 villages are Dodanduwa, Patuwatha, Thiranagama, Wewala, Pikanda, Nalagasdeniya, Kumarakanda and Handaudumulla [5] .

Mission

The Hikkaduwa Urban Council is responsible for providing a variety of local public services including roads, sanitation, drains, housing, libraries, public parks and recreational facilities. It has 11 councillors elected using an open list proportional representation system. [6]

Bandarawela is the second largest town in the Badulla District which is 28 km (17 mi) away from Badulla. Bandarawela is 200 km (120 mi) away from Colombo and about 125 km (78 mi) away from Kandy, the two largest cities of Sri Lanka. Thanks to its higher altitude, compared to surrounding locations, Bandarawela has milder weather conditions throughout the year making it a tourist destination for locals. Ambalangoda Urban Council (AUC) is the local authority for the town of Ambalangoda in the Galle District, Southern Province, Sri Lanka. The AUC is responsible for providing a variety of local public services including roads, sanitation, drains, housing, libraries, public parks and recreational facilities. It has 12 councillors elected using an open list proportional representation system.

The Matara Municipal Council is the local council for Matara, the second largest city in the Southern Province of Sri Lanka, the third level administrative division of the country. The council was established under the Municipalities Ordinance of 1865 as the 13th municipal council of Sri Lanka.

Thiranagama is a village in the southwestern Galle District of Sri Lanka, known for its luxury hotels including the only two 5-star hotels in the Hikkaduwa region.

Local elections were held in Sri Lanka on 10 February 2018. 15.7 million Sri Lankans were eligible to elect 8,327 members to 340 local authorities. It was the largest election in Sri Lankan history. This was also the first election under the mixed electoral system where 60% of members were elected using first-past-the-post voting and the remaining 40% through closed list proportional representation.

The Kaduwela Municipal Council is the local council for Kaduwela, in Colombo District, Sri Lanka.It wields first place in terms of size, with an area of 87.71 square kilometres including the reservoirs, water courses and bodies. It is 13.4% of the area of Colombo District. By the end of the year 2016, the total population of the area was reported as 260,341.
