"Honey Love" a song by American R&B singer R. Kelly and American R&B group Public Announcement. It was released as the second single from Kelly's debut studio album Born into the 90's (1992). It became Kelly's first number-one on the US R&B chart where it peaked for two weeks; also it barely made the Top 40 pop chart portion, peaking at number 39 on the Billboard Hot 100. [1]

Robert Sylvester Kelly is an American singer, songwriter, record producer, and former professional basketball player. A native of Chicago, Kelly began performing during the late 1980s and debuted in 1992 with the group Public Announcement. In 1993, Kelly went solo with the album 12 Play. He is known for various songs including "I Believe I Can Fly", "Bump N' Grind", "Your Body's Callin'", "Gotham City", "Ignition (Remix)", "If I Could Turn Back the Hands of Time", "The World's Greatest", "I'm a Flirt (Remix)", and the hip-hopera "Trapped in the Closet". In 1998, Kelly won three Grammy Awards for "I Believe I Can Fly".

Public Announcement is an American R&B group, which was formed in 1991 in Chicago, Illinois, United States. They teamed with singer R. Kelly for their collaboration album Born into the 90's (1992). The group is known for collection of R&B hit songs like "She's Got That Vibe", "Honey Love", "Slow Dance ", "Dedicated", "Body Bumpin' (Yippie-Yi-Yo)", and "Mamacita".

Legacy

During the tour in support of Born into the 90's , Kelly came up with the concept for his album 12 Play . In the breakdown of "Honey Love", he addressed the audience and told them about "a dream where I made love to a 15 year old girl", which became the song "12 Play". [4]

Released in January 1992, the album became an R&B hit with the success of singles such as "She's Got That Vibe", "Dedicated," and Kelly's first two #1 R&B hits: "Honey Love," and "Slow Dance ." Honey Love topped the Billboard R&B Singles chart for 2 weeks, while "She's Got That Vibe" and "Slow Dance " hit the Top 40 respectively. By June 1992, Born into the 90's was eventually certified platinum and picked up an American Music Award nomination for Favorite Soul/R&B Single. This would be R. Kelly's only album with Public Announcement as he separated from the group before he began recording his next album.
