Artistic gymnastics is a discipline of gymnastics in which athletes perform short routines on different apparatuses. The sport is governed by the Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG),which designs the Code of Points and regulates all aspects of elite international competition. Within individual countries,gymnastics is regulated by national federations like British Gymnastics and USA Gymnastics. Artistic gymnastics is a popular spectator sport at many competitions,including the Summer Olympic Games.
Cătălina Ponor is a Romanian former artistic gymnast who competed at three Olympiads:2004,2012,and 2016. She won three gold medals at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens on balance beam,floor and as part of the Romanian team. She also earned a silver medal on floor and bronze medal as part of the Romanian team at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London,as well as multiple World Championship and European Championship medals. She announced her plans to retire from gymnastics after the 2017 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships,in Montreal. During her career,she won 23 Olympic,World and European medals. More than half of them (12) were gold medals. She was inducted into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame in 2022.
Svetlana Vasilyevna Khorkina is a retired Russian artistic gymnast. She competed at the 1996 Summer Olympics,the 2000 Summer Olympics,and the 2004 Summer Olympics. During her career,Khorkina won seven Olympic medals and twenty World Championship medals. Over time,she medaled in every event at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. She was also the first gymnast to win three all-around titles at the World Championships and only the second female artistic gymnast ever,after Nadia Comăneci,to win three European All-Around titles. Khorkina is regarded as one of the most successful female gymnasts of all time.
Lavinia Corina Miloșovici is a retired Romanian artistic gymnast. An exceptionally successful athlete on the international competition circuit,Miloșovici,also known as "Milo" in the gymnastics community,is considered to be one of Romania's top gymnasts ever and one of the most prolific female all-around medalists ever,earning a total 19 World Championships or Olympic medals in a span of six years. She medalled in every single World Championships meet,Olympic Games and European Championships between 1991 and 1996,and is only the third female gymnast ever,after Larisa Latynina and Věra Čáslavská,to win at least one World Championships or Olympic title on all four events. Miloșovici was also the last gymnast along with Lu Li to ever receive the perfect mark of 10.0 in an Olympic competition and the last to receive the benchmark score of 9.95 at the World Championships. She was inducted into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame in 2011. Her trademarks included her four-event mastery,consistency,longevity,versatile skill set,and leadership abilities.

Kim Gwang-suk is a North Korean female gymnast who competed in the 1992 Summer Olympics. She is known for both her exemplary uneven bars work and for her involvement in one of the most prominent age falsification scandals in gymnastics in recent years.
At the 2008 Summer Olympics,three gymnastics disciplines were contested:artistic gymnastics,rhythmic gymnastics and trampoline. The artistic gymnastics events were held at the Beijing National Indoor Stadium on August 9–19. The rhythmic gymnastics events were held at the Beijing University of Technology Gymnasium on August 21–24. The trampoline events were also held at the Beijing National Indoor Stadium on August 16–19.
The Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships are the world championships for the sport of rhythmic gymnastics. The tournament is promoted and organized by the Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG). It is one of the three tournaments in rhythmic gymnastics officially organized by FIG,as well as the Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup and the gymnastics competitions at the Olympic Games. The first edition of the World Championships was held in 1963,a time when the sport was known as modern gymnastics. The current program of the World Championships contemplates both individual and group performances. In even non-Olympic years and the year before the Olympics,a team event is also contested. Two events are not competed at the World Championships anymore:individual rope and free hands.

Hong Un-jong is a North Korean artistic gymnast. She is the 2008 Olympic champion and 2014 World Champion on vault. She was the first North Korean female gymnast to win a medal at the Olympics.
Cha Yong-Hwa is a North Korean artistic gymnast. She competed at the 2007 World Championships,and represented North Korea at the 2008 Olympic Games,replacing Hong Su-Jong.
Ksenia Dmitrievna Afanasyeva is a retired Russian artistic gymnast who competed at the 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics. She is the 2011 world champion on floor exercise,the 2013 and 2015 European floor champion,and the 2013 Universiade vault and floor champion. Widely regarded as one of the most original and artistic gymnasts of all time,she retired from elite gymnastics in July 2016 due to kidney disease,a month away from the 2016 Summer Olympics,for which she was the Russian team's first alternate.
The Artistic Gymnastics World Cup is a competition series for artistic gymnastics sanctioned by the Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG). It is one of the few tournaments in artistic gymnastics officially organized by FIG,as well as the World Championships and the gymnastics competitions at the Olympic Games and the Youth Olympics. Beginning in the 2017-2020 quadrennium,the All-Around and Individual Apparatus World Cup series are used to qualify a maximum of seven spots to the Olympic Games.
Phan ThịHàThanh is a retired Vietnamese artistic gymnast from Haiphong and a two-time Olympian. She is currently the most decorated and successful gymnast from Vietnam on the international stage. She became the first gymnast to win a world medal for Vietnam,capturing the bronze on vault at the 2011 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships.
Maria Valeryevna Paseka is a Russian artistic gymnast and member of the Russia women's national gymnastics team. During her decade-long career,she has primarily been successful as a vault specialist. On this apparatus,she is a two-time Olympic medalist,a two-time world champion,a two-time European champion,the 2015 Universiade champion,and a two-time Russian national champion. As a member of the Russian teams at the 2012 and 2016 Summer Olympics,Paseka won two silver medals in the team competition.
North Korea,officially the Democratic People's Republic of Korea,competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro,Brazil,from 5 to 21 August 2016. This was the nation's tenth appearance at the Summer Olympics.
The 2015 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships was the forty-sixth edition of the Artistic Gymnastics World Championships. The competition was held from 23 October –1 November 2015 at The SSE Hydro in Glasgow,United Kingdom,and is the first time that Scotland hosted the event. The competition served as a qualification for the 2016 Summer Olympics.
Lee Eun-ju is a South Korean artistic gymnast who represents her nation at international competitions. She won the bronze medal in the team event at the 2015 Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships. She competed at the 2016 Gymnastics Olympic Test Event and was chosen to represent her country at the 2016 Summer Olympics after their initial choice,Lee Go-im,was injured in training. Lee placed 53 in the all-around qualification,her best result being a 13.500 on the uneven bars.
In 1991 Kim Gwang-suk won the first medal,a gold on uneven bars,for North Korea at the World Championships. However,her win became controversial when it was discovered that North Korean officials had falsified her birth year as it was listed as 15 for three years in a row. Although the International Gymnastics Federation punished the North Korean gymnastics federation by barring their women's team from competing at the 1993 World Championships,they did allow Kim to keep her medal. North Korea faced further age-falsification controversy when it was discovered that 2007 World silver medalist Hong Su-jong had listed three different birth years between 2003 and 2010.
