Hooser is an unincorporated community in Dexter Township, Cowley County, Kansas, United States. [1] Hooser is located at 37°08′18″N96°37′48″W / 37.13833°N 96.63000°W / 37.13833; -96.63000 .

History

A post office was opened in Hooser in 1887, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1944. [2]

Hooser was a station on the Missouri Pacific Railroad. In 1910, it contained a population of 23. [3]

The community is served by Dexter USD 471 public school district.

Cordele is a town in Jackson County, Texas, United States. It was founded when land was sold from the New York and Texas Land Company to settlers in 1897. The name is derived from Cordele, Georgia. The first postmaster, Dr. Stapleton, hailed from Cordele, Georgia and named this area to remind him of home. The town was a shipping center at first, even with a post office. There were originally only eight residents. The population reached 176 residents in 1968. The prominent family in the area was the Sbrusch family. Alfonse and Agnes Sbrusch arrived in the area on a mule and a mare. They had six children: Lawrence Sbrusch, Bobby Sbrusch, Thomas Sbrusch, Florine Sbrusch, Alfonse Sbrusch, Linda Sbrusch. The population has declined to 51 in 2000. This town is usually coupled with the town of Edna, 13.2 miles away. Lake Texana is a few miles away, and attracts fisherman from around the state and people looking for recreation on the water or to camp on the water's edge.

Lighthouse Library is a rural community ocean-themed library in Dexter, Kansas. It was built behind the historical Shadid Storefront at 107 S. Main. The new construction is located behind the old brick store that stood as the town's first movie theater at the turn of the century. The library was built by all volunteer labor and through small donations. The library has a 25-foot working lighthouse in its courtyard. On the site is a thrift store and a cabin, both sustaining projects for the library. This project is overseen by Eastern Cowley County Resource Center (ECCRC), a 501 (c)(3) that was founded July 2003 as a memorial tribute to Jennifer Nicole Norris, a local teen who had been killed in an auto accident.
