The Horse Trough Fountain is a small historic fountain in Portland, Oregon, United States. It is located in the Wilamette Heights neighborhood on the corner of NW Thurman Street and NW 31st Avenue. [1]
While the exact date of installation is unknown, it was installed sometime in the early 20th century. According to a study conducted by National Geographic , the fountain was built after money was raised by local schoolchildren who felt bad for workhorses pulling loads up the hill. It was also used as a human drinking fountain. [1]
In present day, the fountain is primarily used for dogs. [2]
