Hrad (The Lake) is a Bengali drama film directed by Ardhendu Sen. [1] [2] The film starring Uttam Kumar, Sandhyarani, Chhabi Biswas, Asit Baran. This film was released on 29 July 1955 under the banner of Rupmaya films. The story was based on Bimal Kar's novel of same name. The film showed to Uttam's one of the most different and critical character, where he played a memory lost patient and give one of the finest performance in his entire career. [3] Uttam received for the first time BFJA Best Actor Award in his career. The famous music composer Manabendra Mukhopadhyay was the music director of the film. [4] This was a mental health and a psychological treatment film. [5] The film became moderate success at the box office.

Plot

Uttam Kumar in a mental asylum where he has forgotten slices of his life and behaves in a way that make people feel he is mad. The doctor however, does not agree and treats him with gentle kindness. However, the novel was better than the film. [6]

Saptapadi is a 1961 Indian Bengali-language Epic romantic drama film by Ajoy Kar, starring Suchitra Sen, Uttam Kumar, Chhabi Biswas and Chhaya Debi. Music direction and playback singing for Kumar's voice was by Hemanta Mukherjee and in Sen's voice by Sandhya Mukherjee. The story is based on a 1958 same name novel by Tarasankar Bandyopadhyay. This is regarded as one of the greatest romantic films in the history of Bengali cinema. The film went on to become the highest grossing Bengali film in 1961. It was featured retrospectively at the 45th IFFI in the "homage section" of Indian panorama.

Drishtidan (1948) is an Indian Bengali feature film directed by Nitin Bose. Based on Rabindranth Tagore's story of the same name, the film narrates the evolving relationship of a blind woman with her husband. Legendary actor Uttam Kumar debuted in this film, later who become one of the greatest actor of the Indian Cinema history and most popular and successful film star in the Bengali Cinema history. In this film Kumar played as a child artist of the hero Asit Baran's role. Kumar worked in this film as his birth name Arun Kumar Chatterjee. The film became a flop at the box office

Sabar Uparey is a 1955 Indian Bengali-language crime thriller film produced by M.P Production Private Ltd and directed by Agradoot, based on A.J. Cronin's 1953 novel, Beyond This Place. It stars Uttam Kumar and Suchitra Sen in leading roles. Chhabi Biswas, Pahari Sanyal and Nitish Mukherjee also play important roles in the movie. The music was composed by Robin Chatterjee. The movie was remade in Hindi as Kala Pani in 1958.

Antony Firingee is a 1967 Indian biographical musical drama film directed by Sunil Bannerjee, starring Uttam Kumar and Tanuja on lead. It is a biopic based on the life of Anthony Firingee, a Bengali language folk poet of Portuguese origin. Antony Firingee was a Portuguese-Indian who became a famous Bengali poet musician and fell in love with Nirupoma. She agreed to marry him after revealing her tragic history. But his fame was not enough to overcome their ostracisation and tragedy struck again.

Bipasha is a 1962 Indian Bengali-language drama film starring Uttam Kumar and Suchitra Sen. and directed by Agradoot. The film is based on a novel titled Bipasha by Sri Tarashankar Bandyopadhay.The story fleetingly describes the horror of riots in West Pakistan during the time of Partition of India. Bipasa was described as a victim of that riot in the film. However, the film deviates from the original novel and avoids describing Bipasha as a gang rape victim by Pakistani Islamist rioters.

Bagh Bondi Khela(English: The Caged Tiger Game) is a 1975 Indian Bengali language political action-crime thriller film co-written and directed by Pijush Basu. Produced by Ashima Bhattacharya, the film is based on a novel of the same name written by Prafulla Roy. It stars Uttam Kumar, Partho Mukherjee, Supriya Devi and Mahua Roy Chowdhury in lead roles, while Tarun Kumar, Asit Baran, Ashim Kumar, Tarun Mitra, Dilip Bose, Kalyani Mondal and Kshudiram Bhattacharya played supporting roles. The soundtrack of the film was composed by Dipankar Chattopadhyay, making his debut as a music director in Bengali Cinema. The film plots revolves around Bhabesh Banerjee, a rich businessman, who all on a sudden calls his son Rajesh and gifts all his properties him to contest in the election from Ranipur and to gain his fame in the field of politics. But Rajesh, who stays separate from his father and knows about his character, declines all the things and later gets convinced by his father. Eventually coming to know about his father's true identity behind the masked face of a loyal political leader and businessman, he informs Kolkata police to arrest Bhabesh. But Bhabesh commits suicide as he never wanted to bow his head down to defeat.

Bardidi is a Bengali drama film directed by Ajoy Kar, based on the novel of the same name by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay. This film was released in 1957 under the banner of Sarat Banichitra.

Pathey Holo Deri is a 1957 Bengali film directed by Agradoot. The film has been music composed by Robin Chatterjee. The film starring Uttam Kumar, and Suchitra Sen who was in leading role and others artists like Shishir Batabyal, Anil Bhattacharya, Mihir Bhattacharya, Chhabi Biswas, Bharati Devi, Chandrabati Devi, Jahar Ganguli, Anup Kumar, Shyam Laha, Gopal Majumdar, Chitra Mandal, Sova Sen, Kamala Mukherjee in the supporting roles. This is the first ever color Bengali film in history. The film become a huge success at the box office.

Saajher Pradip is a 1955 Bengali film directed by Sudhangshu Mukherjee. This film was written by Prabhabati Devi Saraswati. The music has been composed by Manabendra Mukherjee This is a drama film. This film was released on 18 January 1955. The film stars Uttam Kumar and Suchitra Sen in lead roles and Chhabi Biswas, Tulsi Chakraborty, Bhanu Bannerjee, Chhaya Devi, Molina Devi, Shishir Batabyal, Gurudas Bannerjee, Kanu Bannerjee, Dhiraj Bhattacharya and Sumana Bhattacharya in the supporting roles. The film was produced by Sreelekha Pictures. The film become semi hit at the box office and for 50 days in theaters.
