Hemanta Mukhopadhyay, known professionally as Hemant Kumar and Hemanta Mukherjee, was a legendary Indian music director and playback singer who primarily sang in Bengali and Hindi, as well as other Indian languages like Marathi, Gujarati, Odia, Assamese, Tamil, Punjabi, Bhojpuri, Konkani, Sanskrit and Urdu. He was an artist of Bengali and Hindi film music, Rabindra Sangeet, and many other genres. He was the recipient of two National Awards for Best Male Playback Singer and was popularly known as the "voice of God".

Saptapadi is a 1961 Indian Bengali-language romantic drama film by Ajoy Kar, starring Suchitra Sen, Uttam Kumar, Chhabi Biswas and Chhaya Debi. Music direction and playback singing for Kumar voice was by Hemanta Mukherjee and in Sen's voice by Sandhya Mukherjee. The story is based on a 1958 novel by Tarasankar Bandyopadhyay. This is regarded as one of the greatest romantic film in the history of Bengali cinema. The film become highest grossing Bengali film in 1961. It was featured retrospectively at the 45th IFFI in the "homage section" of Indian panorama.
Drishtidan (1948) is an Indian Bengali feature film directed by Nitin Bose. Based on Rabindranth Tagore's story of the same name, the film narrates the evolving relationship of a blind woman with her husband. Legendary actor Uttam Kumar debuted in this film, later who become one of the greatest actor of the Indian Cinema history and most popular and successful film star in the Bengali Cinema history. In this film Kumar played as a child artist of the hero Asit Baran's role. Kumar worked in this film as his birth name Arun Kumar Chatterjee. The film became a flop at the box office
Sabar Uparey is a 1955 Indian Bengali-language crime thriller film produced by M.P Production Private Ltd and directed by Agradoot, based on A.J. Cronin's 1953 novel, Beyond This Place. It stars Uttam Kumar and Suchitra Sen in leading roles. Chhabi Biswas, Pahari Sanyal and Nitish Mukherjee also play important roles in the movie. The music was composed by Robin Chatterjee. The movie was remade in Hindi as Kala Pani in 1958.

This film was released on 18 January 1955. The film stars Uttam Kumar and Suchitra Sen in lead roles and Chhabi Biswas, Tulsi Chakraborty, Bhanu Bannerjee, Chhaya Devi, Molina Devi, Shishir Batabyal, Gurudas Bannerjee, Kanu Bannerjee, Dhiraj Bhattacharya and Sumana Bhattacharya in the supporting roles. The film was produced by Sreelekha Pictures. The film become semi hit at the box office and for 50 days in theaters.
