"Hurry Up" is a song by Australian singer Che'Nelle from her debut studio album, Things Happen for a Reason (2007). The song was released as the second single from the album. A music video was released for the song. The song was written and produced by both Sean Garrett and Warren Felder and was recorded in Atlanta, Georgia. The song received an official remix for its UK release featuring the rapper Tinchy Stryder.

Background and composition

Che'Nelle recorded various demos which were uploaded online via the social networking website MySpace and these were shared across music forums. [1] The artist's work came to the attention of record producers and she was flown to the US, signed and began work on her debut album. [2] Che'Nelle's debut album titled Things Happen for a Reason was first released on 20 August 2007. [3] "Hurry Up" was released as the second single from the album. [4]

"Hurry Up" was written by Sean Garrett and Warren Felder. [5] It was also produced by the duo and then recorded by Vernon J Mungo at Silent Studios based in Atlanta, Georgia. It received additional mixing from Phil Tan at Soapbox Studios also in Atlanta. [6] In Japan a promotional CD was released with official artwork. [4] In Europe another promotional CD was issued with different cover art and featured a main edit and instrumental of the song. [7] In the UK it was released to radio as an official remix version featuring the rapper Tinchy Stryder. [8] It was released via the EMI subsidiary label Positiva Records. [9] The song was also issued to Russian radio stations on 10 March 2008, via Gala Records. [10]

A music video for "Hurry Up" premiered on iTunes on 17 December 2007. [11]

Critical reception

Leslie Wilson from Gulf News said "Hurry Up" had the potential to be a "summer hit". She likened the "near-identical" sound to the other album tracks "Club Jumpin'" and "Teach Me How to Dance" and "Hurry Up" and believed it made them all sound repetitive. [12] The UK remix of the song was featured on British DJ MistaJam's BBC Radio 1xtra "MistaJam Recommends" playlist. [8] N. Lochy from DJ Booth described it as a "dance record, with noticeably fused elements of Hip-Hop and Reggae". They compared the sound of "Hurry Up" to the US singer Fergie. Lochy added that the song is attention grabbing and praised Garrett for producing a "busy beat perfect for holding the interest" of listeners. [13]

A reviewer from Finland's Stara gave the song a one out of five rating. They were not impressed with the song's production and opined that there was crackling background noise in the song that distracts the listener. They said the song was so bad they needed to wear ear plugs. [14]

Things Happen for a Reason is the debut studio album by Australian singer Che'Nelle. It was first released on 22 August 2007, Japan via EMI Music Japan. An international release followed on 5 September 2007 by Capitol Records. It was her first commercial release after signing with the Capitol Music Group CEO Jason Flom. Sir Charles Dixon served as the album's executive producer, after he discovered Che'Nelle's music online and helped to secure her record deal. The album features productions from James Poyser, Oak Felder, Sean Garrett, Kara DioGuardi and Rich Harrison and The Lab Ratz. Che'Nelle either wrote or co-wrote the entire album. The album was largely mixed by Andrew Dawson. Three songs featured on "Things Happen for a Reason" sample songs performed by other artists.

It is a follow-up to her internationally released debut album "Things Happen for a Reason" (2007). The singer's manager Sir Charles Dixon served as the album's executive producer. "Feel Good" contains songs which were written by Che'Nelle herself and features production from Jason Gill, Toshinobu Kubota and The Insomniax. The album features collaborations with Jamaican artist Shaggy, the American singer Colby O'Donis and Japanese act Lecca. Two songs originally featured on her debut made it onto the album. It received a physical CD release solely in Japan and charted at number forty-one on the Japan Oricon album chart.

<i>Luv Songs</i> 2011 studio album by CheNelle

Luv Songs (ラブ・ソングス) is the third studio album by Australian recording artist Che'Nelle. It was first released on 20 July 2011 by EMI Music Japan. Luv Songs is the singer's first cover album. Most of the songs were translated from Japanese into English by Che'Nelle and her team. She worked with past collaborators Derek Brin, Emile Ghantous and Erik Nelson who produced and recorded songs for the album. Che'Nelle worked with EIGO, who produced additional tracks. "Luv Songs" peaked at number 3 on the Oricon albums chart and spent 107 weeks in total on the chart. A digital deluxe edition was released on 30 November 2011 containing additional versions of "Baby I Love U". To promote "Luv Songs", three official singles were released "Sakura", "So Sick" and "Baby I Love U". The latter becoming one of her most successful singles to date selling more than 500,000 digital downloads alone by October 2013, according to RIAJ. The album was certified gold and later platinum by RIAJ in Japan. In 2013, it was re-released as "Luv Songs -Special Edition" with four additional versions of "Baby I Love U", including remixes by DJ Kaori and DJ Komori.

RIAJ issued one platinum and two double platinum certifications to "Baby I Love You", indicating it had sold in excess of over 1.25 million copies by October 2013.
