The Grand Slam in Brazilian jiu-jitsu is the achievement of winning all four major IBJJF tournaments in a calendar year. The four Grand Slam tournaments are the World IBJJF Championship, the European IBJJF Championship, Pan IBJJF Championship and the CBJJ Brazilian National Championship. Winning all four tournaments within a single year is widely considered the most prestigious accomplishment in Brazilian jiu-jitsu competition. [1]

History

In the sport of Brazilian jiu-jitsu, the first Brazilian National Championship ("Brasileiro") started in 1994, [2] the IBJJF World Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Championship ("Worlds") was held in 1996, [3] [4] the Pan American Championship ("Pans") first took place in 1996 [5] while the European Open Championship ("Euros") was inaugurated in 2004. [6]

Euros, Pans, Brasileiros and Worlds are the four major and most renowned championships in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, [7] they are part of a series of events known as the IBJJF Grand Slam. [8] [9] [10]

The European Open is the first gi grand slam tournament of the year, the last edition took place in Paris, [11] followed by Pans in California, [12] the Brazilian Nationals in São Paulo and the World Championship in California. Being the reigning champion of all four competitions in a single year is regarded as the most prestigious accomplishment in competition (in either gi or no gi). [13]

The Campeonato Brasileiro de Jiu-Jitsu, commonly known as Brasileiro, is an annual Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) tournament held in Brazil by the IBJJF. Tayane Porfírio de Araújo is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) 4x World Championship black belt champion. In 2017 Porfirio realized the IBJJF Grand Slam after winning her weight category and the absolute category at all 4 major Gi Championships: World Championship, European Open Championship, Pan Jiu-Jitsu Championship and Brazilian Nationals Championship.

Ffion Davies is a Welsh submission grappler, mixed martial artist and a world-champion Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) competitor. She is a multiple winner of the IBJJF World Championship, including the no-gi championship in 2023 in both the 61kg and absolute divisions.

Devhonte Johnson, commonly known as "Bones", is an American grappler and Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt competitor and coach. Tainan Dalpra Costa is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt competitor. A winner of every major tournaments as a colored belt, Dalpra is a two-time World, Pan American, and European champion. Dalpra is ranked No. 1 in the middleweight 2022-2023 IBJJF Gi Ranking.

Micael Ferreira Galvão, commonly known as Mica Galvão, is a submission grappler, Luta Livre and Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ) black belt competitor from the Brazilian state of Amazonas. A highly decorated athlete competing since childhood, Galvão was promoted to black belt in 2021, at the age of 17, less than three years after reaching blue belt. In 2022 Galvão won the 2022 IBJJF World Jiu-Jitsu Championship before testing positive for a banned substance and receiving a one-year suspension ban.
