IHF President's Development Award is awarded by the International Handball Federation to its member federations for the spread and development of handball in their own countries and/or through the world. It is awarded by the IHF President or his representative every two year at the IHF Congress.

History

The IHF President’s Development Award is awarded to IHF member federations. It is granted to two Member Federations every two years at the IHF Congress. Formerly it is known as the Hans Baumann Trophy until 2015.

It is awarded for particular services to the development and spread of handball in the Member Federations’ own countries and/or throughout the world. The recipients are selected and the award granted by the IHF Council at the recommendation of the IHF Executive Committee. After invitation by the IHF, Member Federations may submit a completed IHF questionnaire no later than six months before the Congress.

The Member Federations receiving the award are given a diploma and a small replica of the award. The IHF President’s Development Award is granted to two applicants on two levels:

The Asian Handball Federation (AHF) is the governing body of handball and beach handball in Asia. It has 44 member countries, mostly located on the Asian continent, but excludes the transcontinental countries with territory in both Europe and Asia – Azerbaijan, Georgia, Russian Federation and Turkey – which are instead members of European Handball Federation (EHF). The International Handball Federation (IHF) is the administrative and controlling body for handball and beach handball. IHF is responsible for the organisation of handball's major international tournaments, notably the IHF World Men's Handball Championship, which commenced in 1938, and the IHF World Women's Handball Championship, which commenced in 1957.

The Hans Baumann Trophy, which was endowed by the Spanish members of the IHF, commemorates the late President of the IHF, Hans Baumann. It is awarded to IHF member federations from 1972 to 2015. In 2017, the IHF Council decided to reform and rename it as the IHF President's Development Award.

The IHF Badge of Merit is awarded by International Handball Federation to individuals who made an extraordinary contribution to the development of handball.

Peter Mühlematter is a Swiss handball administrator. He was born on 2 January 1945 in Bern. While working as manager for a Swiss printing machine manufacturer, he started his IHF career as member of the IHF Commission for Development and Public Relations before becoming a member and then President of the IHF Commission of Organising and Competition. Thus, by virtue of his office, he had also been a member of the IHF Council. At the IHF Congress in 2004, he was elected Secretary General of the International Handball Federation (IHF).

The International Hospital Federation (IHF) is an independent, not-for-profit, non-governmental organization based in Bernex, Switzerland. The IHF is a global association for healthcare management that assists healthcare organizations and facilities in improving their performance by implementing initiatives that enhance their responsiveness, efficiency, accessibility, and quality in meeting the healthcare requirements of people all over the world. The IHF Emerging Nations Championship is a men's handball tournament organized by the International Handball Federation since 2015, directed to play with emerging teams. Its first edition was held in Kosovo from June 20 to 26.

Hans Baumann was a Swiss architect and sports administrator who was one of the founding members of the International Handball Federation (IHF). He served as the second President of the IHF from 1950 to 1971.

The 2021 IHF World Women's Handball Championship, the 25th event by the International Handball Federation, was held in Spain from 1 to 19 December 2021. On 18 October 2018, at a congress in Doha, Qatar, the IHF announced that the World Championship would be expanded from 24 teams to 32 teams from 2021 onwards.

The 2017 Youth Beach Handball World Championship was the first edition of IHF Youth Beach Handball World Championship organised by the Mauritius Handball Association under the auspices of the International Handball Federation. The event was held in Flic-en-Flac, Mauritius from 11 to 16 July 2017. It was played in under-17 years category. It also acted as a qualification tournament for the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics which was held in Buenos Aires (Argentina).

IHF Honorary President and Honorary Members is an award established by the International Handball Federation. It is awarded by the IHF Congress to individuals who have rendered outstanding services to the international handball.

The IHF Council is an institution of International Handball Federation. It is the main decision-making body of the organization in the intervals of IHF Congress. Its members are elected by the IHF Congress. The council is a non-executive, supervisory and strategic body that sets the vision for IHF and global handball.
