Jackson continued to release singles through the 1970s. The album Off the Wall spawned five singles, including the chart-topping "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" (1979) and "Rock with You" (1979). Both are certified platinum by the Recording Industry of America (RIAA) sales in excess of 4 million and 2 million copies respectively. Jackson's first single to be certified by the RIAA was "The Girl Is Mine" (1982), a collaboration with Paul McCartney. The single peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100. "Billie Jean", released as the second single from his sixth studio album Thriller, topped the charts in 13 countries. The single sold more than six million copies in the United States and over 1,440,000 in the United Kingdom. "Beat It", released a month later, peaked at number one in nine countries and sold more than five million copies in the US. "Thriller" was released in November 1982 and peaked at number four on the Billboard Hot 100. The single sold seven million copies in the US alone, making it Jackson's best-selling single.
"Sweetest Thing" is a song by Irish rock band U2. It was originally released as a B-side on the "Where the Streets Have No Name" single in 1987. The song was later re-recorded and re-released as a single in October 1998 for the band's compilation album The Best of 1980–1990.

It was released in March 1976 as the album's third single in Canada and the album's debut single in the United States. It reached the top 25 in Canada and the top 35 in the US. Its greatest success occurred in the Netherlands and Belgium where it peaked at number 2 and 13, respectively, in early 1977 after its release as the second single from Dreamboat Annie in those countries. It is considered one of Heart's signature songs as it is one of the most played tracks on classic rock radio stations in the US and was one of the two songs Heart played during their performance the evening of their induction ceremony into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013.
"There's a Kind of Hush" is a popular song written by Les Reed and Geoff Stephens. Originally recorded by Stephens' group the New Vaudeville Band in 1967 as a neo-British music hall number, this version of the track became a hit in Australia and South Africa. However, in the rest of the world, a near-simultaneous cover was a big hit for Herman's Hermits. The song was a charted hit again in 1976 for The Carpenters.
"Double Barrel" is a 1970 reggae single by Dave and Ansell Collins. It was the second reggae tune to top the UK charts, two years after Desmond Dekker's number 1 ska breakthrough hit "Israelites". The record reached number 1 on the UK Singles Chart for the first two weeks in May 1971, selling 300,000 copies, after only 33 radio plays. In the U.S., "Double Barrel" peaked at number 22 on the Billboard Hot 100 on 7 August 1971 and number 4 on WLS on 28 June 1971, two years to the week after "Israelites" made a nearly identical climb to peak at the same position on the same chart. It also reached number 1 in Mexico on October 23, 1971. It peaked at number 8 in Australia.
"Beginnings" is a song written by Robert Lamm for the rock band Chicago Transit Authority and recorded for its debut album Chicago Transit Authority, released in 1969. The song is the band's second single, but failed to chart on its initial release.
"Fly, Robin, Fly" is a song by German disco group Silver Convention from their debut studio album Save Me (1975). Sylvester Levay and Stephan Prager wrote the song, and the latter produced it. "Fly, Robin, Fly" was released as the third single from Save Me in September 1975, peaking at number one on the United States Billboard Hot 100. Thanks to the success of "Fly, Robin, Fly", Silver Convention became the first German act to have a number one song on the American music charts. The song received a Grammy Award for Best R&B Instrumental Performance in 1976.

New Colony Six is an American soft rock band whose height of popularity was from the mid-1960s to the early 1970s. From Chicago, the group placed ten singles on the Hot 100 between 1966 and 1971. Original members were Ray Graffia (vocals), who was born March 28, 1946, Chick James (drums), Pat McBride (harmonica), Craig Kemp (organ), Wally Kemp (bass), and Gerry Van Kollenburg (guitar), who was born June 26, 1946. Ronnie Rice replaced Craig Kemp in 1966. There were numerous changes in the lineup over the years. The band's two biggest hits, which peaked on the Chicago-area radio station WLS months before they peaked nationally, were Rice's "I Will Always Think About You" and "Things I'd Like to Say". In Canada, they also hit the charts with an earlier song "Love You So Much" and the later "I Could Never Lie To You".
"Hitchin' a Ride" is a song written by Mitch Murray and Peter Callander issued as a single by the English pop/rock band Vanity Fare in late 1969. It reached number 16 on the UK Singles Chart in February 1970, but was a bigger hit in the United States, reaching number 5 on the Hot 100 on June 27, 1970. Billboard ranked the record as the number 14 song of 1970. In Chicago the record achieved even greater heights, scaling the WCFL Big 10 Countdown on 18–25 May 1970, and ranking #4 for all of 1970, and rival WLS Radio 89 Hit Parade on 1–8 June 1970, and ranking #10 for all of 1970. "Hitchin' a Ride" sold a million copies in the United States alone, and it became a gold record.

"This One's for You" is the title track from the 1976 album by Barry Manilow with words and music by Manilow and Marty Panzer. "This One's for You" peaked at number 29 on the Billboard Hot 100, and it was Manilow's fifth number one on the Easy Listening chart, reaching the top position for one week in November 1976. "This One's for You" was followed by the single, "Weekend in New England". The song was covered by Shirley Bassey on her 1977 album titled, "You Take My Heart Away", and Teddy Pendergrass for his 1982 album, "This One's for You." An early version of the song appears on Manilow's compilation box set, The Complete Collection and Then Some....

"Things I'd Like to Say" is a song by the American rock band New Colony Six, released in 1968 on their album Revelations and as a single. The song became a top 20 hit in the U.S., peaking at number 16 on the Billboard Hot 100 and at number 13 on the Cash Box Top 100 Singles chart, and a top 10 hit in Canada, peaking at number 6 on the RPM Top Singles chart. It also peaked at number 2 on the WLS 89 Hit Parade on 30 December 1968 in the band's home city of Chicago.
