Ibrahim Idris Kpotun (born 15 January 1959) is a Nigerian police officer and former Inspector General of Police. [1] He was appointed to this position by President Muhammadu Buhari on 21 March 2016, [2] serving till his retirement in January 2019. [3] He replaced Solomon Arase,who retired from the police force on 21 June 2016.
Prior to his appointment,he was an Assistant Inspector General of Police (Operations),FHQ Abuja. He also led the Police Mobile Force as well as the Kano State and Nasarawa State police commands in Nigeria while serving in the rank of Commissioner of Police. [4]
Idris hails from Kutigi,Lavun in Niger State. He was born on 15 January 1959,and enlisted into the Nigerian Police Force in 1984,after graduating from the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria with a bachelor's degree in Agriculture. He also holds a degree in Law from the University of Maiduguri. [5]
Idris is the first and only IGP in history of Nigeria to declare his assets publicly and received commendation from the Code of Conduct Bureau for complying with declaration of assets regulations and also the only IGP to have deploy female officer in commanding units at state level. [6]

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is a Nigerian law enforcement agency that investigates financial crimes such as advance fee fraud and money laundering. The EFCC was established in 2003,partially in response to pressure from the Financial Action Task Force on Money Laundering (FATF),which named Nigeria as one of 23 countries non-cooperative in the international community's efforts to fight money laundering. Solomon Ehigiator Arase is a retired Nigerian police officer. He is currently the Chairman of the Nigeria Police Service Commission. He was appointed Chairman in January 2023 by President Muhammadu Buhari. Arase also served as the 18th Inspector-General of Nigerian Police (IGP) after Suleiman Abba was sacked. Before his appointment as IGP,Arase was head of the topmost intelligence gathering unit of the Nigerian police,the Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Bureau.
Suleiman Abba is a retired Nigerian police officer who served as the 17th Inspector General of Nigerian Police. He was appointed as acting IGP on 1 August 2014 by President Goodluck Jonathan and later confirmed as substantive IGP on 4 November 2014. Before the appointment,Abba was serving as the Assistant Inspector-General in Charge of Zone 7,Abuja. IGP,Suleiman Abba was sacked 21 April 2015 because of noticeable indiscipline in the Nigerian Police Force in the buildup to the 2015 general election

The Police Council on Friday,June 4,2021,confirmed the appointment of Alkali Usman Baba as the substantive Inspector General of Police.
Parry Benjamin Osemwegie Osayande is a retired Deputy Inspector General of police. He was the commissioner of police of the former Bendel state during the Anini saga which terrorised Nigeria in the 1980s. Under his watch as commissioner of police in the now defunct Bendel state,Lawrence Anini,the infamous armed robber was captured and executed. In 1990,Parry Osayande directed the operations which suppressed the Bauchi religious inspired riots in which several people died. In 1992,Osayande led the Federal Government delegation to Namibia under the auspices of the United Nations Transition Assistance Group to monitor the behaviour,conduct and activities of the South West African Police and assist Namibian citizens to hold free and fair elections. Osayande retired as Deputy Inspector General of police in 1992. He was later appointed as Chairman of the Police Service Commission in 2010 by the Goodluck Jonathan administration,a position he held until 2014. Osayande served in several committees set up by the Nigerian Federal Government to reform the Police force.
