Ibrahim Mukiibi (born 15 July 1935) is a Ugandan minister,diplomat,and entrepreneur. He was the powerful Minister of Internal Affairs throughout the early 1990s under president Yoweri Museveni,and has been an ambassador for Uganda to numerous foreign nations. [1] He is also a successful hotelier,running the Serenada Eco-Resort with his wife Harriet on the shores of Lake Victoria. [2]
One of Mukiibi's first prominent political roles was as Uganda's ambassador to the Scandinavian countries,a position he held during the Idi Amin regime. [3] He was out of political power during Apolo Milton Obote's second term,but reentered when his ally Yoweri Museveni took power. He also worked at the African Union on behalf of Uganda during the reign of Idi Amin. [4]
Mukiibi was a prominent minister in the early days of the Yoweri Museveni regime. He was Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uganda from 1986,when Museveni took power,until 1988. [5] He then served as the powerful Minister of Internal Affairs of Uganda from 1989 to 1994,replacing Kahinda Otafiire,who had to resign as Minister of Internal Affairs after he brandished a pistol at a woman at a Kampala bar. [6] [7] Ibrahim Mukiibi left the role in 1987,being replaced by Crispus Kiyonga. [8]
Mukiibi was appointed Uganda's ambassador to Ukraine in 2002,serving until 2003. [9] In 2003,he moved to be Uganda's ambassador to Egypt. [10] In 2005,in a cabinet reshuffling,Museveni moved Mukiibi to the role of ambassador to Saudi Arabia. [11] He moved to Tanzania in 2006,his longest serving role with an important neighboring country. [12] He left the role in 2012,to a farewell party in Dar es Salaam on behalf of the Tanzanian government. [13]
In 2012,Mukiibi was brought back home to be closer to President Museveni and serve as a Senior Presidential Adviser on Retainer,alongside Francis Butagaira,the Ugandan Ambassador to the European Union in Brussels. [14]
During the early 1980s,Ambassador Ibrahim Mukiibi bought land from his brothet-in-law late Haji Tambula who was then married to his younger sister. The land is situated in Butere Village on the shores of Lake Victoria in the tropical forest in Kyaggwe,in the Mukono District. [15] It's on this land that they established the Serenada Eco-Resort,featuring luxury tents,canoeing,a restaurant,and a bar,25 minutes by boat from Ggaba. The Uganda National Liberation Front (UNLF) was a political group formed by exiled Ugandans opposed to the rule of military dictator Idi Amin. The UNLF had an accompanying military wing,the Uganda National Liberation Army (UNLA). UNLA fought alongside Tanzanian forces in the Uganda–Tanzania War that led to the overthrow of Amin's regime. The group ruled Uganda from the overthrow of Amin in April 1979 until the disputed national elections in December 1980.

The University Students' African Revolutionary Front (USARF) was a political student group formed in 1967 at the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania. The group,which engaged in study and activism and held regular meetings on Sundays,featured many students who would go on to become influential politicians. USARF was composed of students from Kenya,Zambia,Malawi,Zimbabwe,Ethiopia,Sudan,Tanzania,Uganda and elsewhere in Africa. President of Uganda,Yoweri Museveni was elected its chairman for the whole time he was at university. John Garang,another former USARF member,was the vice-president of Sudan at the time of his death in July 2005. The group identified closely with African liberation movements,especially FRELIMO in Mozambique.
Moses Ali is a Ugandan politician and retired military general. He is the Second Deputy Prime Minister and Deputy Leader of Government Business in Parliament. He previously served in the Cabinet of Uganda as Third Deputy Prime Minister and Deputy Leader of Government Business from May 2011 until June 2016. The Save Uganda Movement was a militant Ugandan opposition group which fought against the government of President Idi Amin from 1973 to 1979. Described as "specialists in sabotage" by journalist John Darnton,SUM attempted to overthrow Amin by waging a guerrilla campaign of bombings,raids,and assassinations. The movement mainly operated from Kenya and Tanzania. Unlike much of the Ugandan opposition at the time,SUM had no firm ideology and was decentralized,consisting of different groups with similar aims,the principal one being the ouster of Idi Amin. SUM cooperated with the forces loyal to ex-President Milton Obote during the Uganda–Tanzania War (1978–1979) and eventually joined the Uganda National Liberation Front which formed the country's post-Amin governments.
The Battle of Kabamba,also known as the First Battle of Kabamba,was the result of an attempt by Popular Resistance Army (PRA) rebels to capture an armoury at the Kabamba Military Barracks,defended by the Tanzania People's Defence Force (TPDF) and Uganda National Liberation Army (UNLA). The battle marked the PRA's entry in the Ugandan Bush War.
Sam Magara was a Ugandan rebel,and one of the National Resistance Army (NRA)'s leading commanders during the early Ugandan Bush War. A long-time associate of NRA leader Yoweri Museveni,he became the latter's second-in-command in 1981 and assumed command of the NRA in his absence. However,he fell into disfavor after the NRA's internal security network alleged that he was planning to overthrow Museveni. Magara was eventually killed by security forces in Kampala in late 1982.
Yorokamu Tizihwayo,also known as Y. Tiziriwayho and Yerukamu,was a Ugandan military officer. He served as a high-ranking commander during Idi Amin's rule as Ugandan President,first as the head of the 2nd Paratrooper Battalion and later for the Western Brigade. In the Uganda–Tanzania War (1978–1979),Tizihwayo led the Uganda Army troops which opposed the Tanzania People's Defence Force's advance into western Uganda. Despite being regarded as a talented soldier and considered one of the Tanzanians' more dangerous opponents during the war,he was eventually arrested and executed on alleged treason charges by Amin's State Research Bureau.
