Ice hockey at the 2018 Winter Olympics – Women's qualification

Qualification for the women's tournament at the 2018 Winter Olympics determined by the IIHF World Ranking following the 2016 Women's Ice Hockey World Championships. The top five teams in the World Ranking received automatic berths into the Olympics, South Korea has received an automatic berth as host, and all other member nations had an opportunity to qualify for the remaining two spots.   1. a After talks in Panmunjom on 17 January 2018, a unified Korean team consisting of players from both North Korea and South Korea was created to compete at the 2018 Winter Olympics. [3]

Qualification seeding

To qualify directly, a nation had to be ranked in the top five following the 2016 IIHF Women's World Championship. [1] Using the IIHF World Ranking points system, the 2016 received full value, and each preceding year was worth 25% less. Teams that wished to compete must apply in "early spring of 2016". [5] The following is a ranking based on points accumulated toward Olympic qualification of all countries.

The 2018 World Junior Ice Hockey Championship was the 42nd edition of the Ice Hockey World Junior Championship, and was hosted by the city of Buffalo, New York at the KeyBank Center and HarborCenter. It opened on December 26, 2017 and closed with the gold medal game on January 5, 2018. The 2016 IIHF Women's World Championship Division II was three international ice hockey tournaments organised by the International Ice Hockey Federation. The Division II Group A tournament was played in Bled, Slovenia, from 2 to 8 April 2016, the Division II Group B tournament was played in Jaca, Spain, from 29 February to 6 March 2016, and the Division II Group B Qualification tournament was played in Sofia, Bulgaria, from 7 to 10 December 2015.

The 2022 IIHF World U18 Championship was the 23rd such event hosted by the International Ice Hockey Federation. Teams participated at several levels of competition. The competition also served as qualifications for the 2023 competition. On 28 February the IIHF "suspended all Russian and Belarusian National Teams and Clubs from participation in every age category and in all IIHF competitions or events until further notice", which resulted in a reformatting of the tournament. Due to the suspensions there are two open spots in the top division, two teams can be promoted for 2023 and no team will be relegated. Additionally, all eight teams will qualify for the QF round and will be reseeded according to their tournament ranking.

The 2023 Men's Ice Hockey World Championships were the 86th such event hosted by the International Ice Hockey Federation. Teams participated in several levels of competition. The competition also served as qualifications for division placements in the 2024 competition.

Qualification for the men's tournament at the 2026 Winter Olympics was determined by the IIHF World Ranking following the 2023 Men's Ice Hockey World Championships. The host along with the top eight teams in the world ranking receive automatic berths into the Olympics, while all other teams have an opportunity to qualify for the remaining three spots in the Olympics.
