Ignatius A. Onimawo (born July 20, 1957) is a Nigerian academic, nutritionist, researcher, and former vice-chancellor, Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Nigeria. [1] [2] [3]

Onimawo was born in Afowa, Etsako West, Edo State [4] He went to St. James Grammar School, Afuze from 1972 to 1976, and received his first school leaving certificate in 1976. He was admitted into the University of Ibadan in 1977, in the department of agricultural biochemistry and nutrition; graduating with a bachelor of science degree (second class upper division) in 1982. He proceeded for his postgraduate studies in human nutrition (nutritional biochemistry) in the same university, and earned M.Sc. and Ph.D degrees in 1985 and 1995 respectively. In 2012, he obtained a certificate in professional development in nutrition. [5]

[ citation needed ]Onimawo started his career in 1983 as a lecturer III in the science technology department of the Federal Polytechnic, Idah in Kogi State. In 1999, he became a chief lecturer in the same school leaving in 1999 to join Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma as a senior lecturer. In 2001, he took up an appointment with Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike and rose to the rank of a professor in that same university in 2005. He returned to Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma in 2005 as a professor.
Onimawo has received 27 awards, honors and recognition locally and internationally. [6]
Onimawo has served in various capacities including, chairman, academic staff union, Federal Polytechnic, Idah (1994 – 1998), chairman, senate business committee, Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma (1994 -1998). Others are national president, Nutrition Society of Nigeria (2002-2006), editor–in-chief for the Nigerian Journal of Nutritional Sciences (2006 - 2008; 2009 – 2012), editor-in-chief, Nigerian Annals of Sciences (2000 - 2001), [7] [8] dean, college of applied food sciences and tourism, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (2006 - 2008), head, department of biochemistry, Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma ( 2009 - 2011), director of academic planning, Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma (2011 - 2012), [6] and secretary general, Federation of African Nutrition Societies (an international organization of nutritionists in Africa). Onimawo is a sportsman, sprinter, [9] footballer, hockey player, volleyball player, triple jumper and ludo player. [10] [6] He is a Catholic and is married to Mrs. Jane Onimawo of the department of vocational and technical education, faculty of education, Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma and they have three children. Ambrose Alli University (AAU) is a state-owned university in Edo State, Nigeria. It was established in 1981 by the governor of Bendel State, Ambrose Folorunsho Alli. Initially known as Bendel State University, subsequently known as Edo State University, and finally changed to its present name in commemoration of professor Ambrose Folorunsho Alli, AAU is accredited and recognized by the National Universities Commission (NUC). The Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, originally the Federal University of Agriculture, is a federal university in Umudike, Abia State, Nigeria was established as a specialized University by a Federal Government of Nigeria Decree No 48 of November 1992. It began formal activities in May 1993 with the appointment of the first Council and Vice-Chancellor Professor Placid C. Ekpoma is a town in Edo State, Nigeria. It is the administrative headquarters of the Esan West Local Government Area. Ekpoma lies on the geographical coordinate of latitude 6°45′N6°08′E. The town has an official Post Office, and it is home to the Ambrose Alli University. Currently Ekpoma town is developing with major infrastructures, hospitals, schools, modern eateries and roads. The town is also secured.
Umudike is a semi-urban settlement in Oboro, Ikwuano Local Government Area in Abia State, Nigeria. It is about 11 kilometers southeast of Umuahia, the state's capital city. It is home to the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture and the National Root Crops Research Institute. Umudike is composed of two autonomous communities which are Umudike and Umudike Ukwu.
Jarlath Udoudo Umoh is a professor of Veterinary medicine at Ahmadu Bello University. He is a fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Science, elected into the Academy’s Fellowship at its Annual General Meeting held in January 2015. He was 11th of Ahmadu Bello University from May 2009 to December 2009. He is a scientist who through his study on the dissemination of rabies virus in tissues, developed the use of skin biopsy for in vitro diagnosis of rabies in 1983.

On May 10, 2021, he was appointed as the acting vice-chancellor of the Ambrose Alli University where he served for 10 months until his removal on February 8, 2022.

Congress of Nigerian University Academics (CONUA) is a secession of Academic Staff Union of Universities. The union is led by Niyi Sunmonu from Obafemi Awolowo University. It was established in 2018 and was not certified until October 2022 by the Minister of Labour and Employment Senator Chris Ngige following the failure of the Federal Government of Nigeria and Academic Staff Union of Universities to reach a conclusion that can put an end to the thirty three weeks labour strike that started in February 2022
