Ileana Silai is a retired Romanian middle-distance runner. She competed in the 800 m at the 1968, 1972 and 1976 Olympics and in the 1500 m at the 1976 and 1980 Olympics. She won a silver over 800 m in 1968. At the European indoor championships she won silver medals in the 800 metres in 1971 and 1972 and a gold in the 1500 m in 1978.

Michael Stember is a track and field athlete from the United States who is known for his achievements in the middle distance events. His first international competition was winning the gold medal in the 1500 metres at the 1997 Pan American Junior Championships. He won a silver medal at the 1999 Pan American Games in the men's 1500 metres. He ran in the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia, where he qualified for the semi-finals but finished a non-qualifying 9th. He returned to the 2003 Pan American Games and repeated his silver medal in the men's 1500 metres. In 2004 he became the U.S. Indoor 800 m champion. In 2007–2008 he was a volunteer coach at UCLA. He later became a restaurant owner.

Cristiano Rositoano Michelena is a former international freestyle swimmer from Brazil. He was born in Rio Grande do Sul. He participated in two consecutive Summer Olympics for his native country, starting in 1988. His best result was the sixth place in the Men's 4×100-metre freestyle Relay in Barcelona, Spain.

Philip Yates Coleman was a middle- and long-distance runner from the United States. He was born in Champaign, Illinois. He won the gold medal in the men's 3000 metres steeplechase event at the 1959 Pan American Games. Coleman attended Southern Illinois University (1948 - 1952, spent two years in the Army and becoming inter service steeplechase champion. He attended graduate school at the University of Illinois, meanwhile competing for The University of Chicago Track Club. He was a member of the 1956 and 1960 Olympic teams. He retired from running in 1960, wrote an article for Sports Illustrated “Idea of an Amateur, 1962, for which he was awarded the Mohammed Taher trophy by the International Olympic committee. With his thesis, “Mark Twain’s Desperate Naturalism” completed, he received a PhD in Literature in 1964. He taught literature and served as dean at California University of Pennsylvania, retiring in 1998.
Thomas Frederick Von Ruden was a middle distance runner from the United States. He is best known for winning the gold medal in the men's 1500 metres at the 1967 Pan American Games in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Von Ruden set his personal best (3:38.5) in the same event on 26 July 1971 at a meet in Århus. He also competed in the men's 1500 metres at the 1968 Summer Olympics.
Ileana Benita Beltrán Zulueta is a retired female judoka from Cuba. She twice competed for her native country at the Summer Olympics in the Women's Half-Middleweight division: 1992 and 1996. Beltrán twice won a gold medal at the Pan American Games during her career.
Grant Robison is a retired track athlete, who competed in the middle distance running events. He represented the United States at the 2004 Summer Olympics. Robison won the bronze medal in the men's 1,500 metres at the 2003 Pan American Games. During college he ran for Stanford University.

At the 2018 Commonwealth Games McLoughlin won a gold medal in the same event and silver in the 400 metre freestyle. In the Autumn of 2019, he was a member of the inaugural International Swimming League swimming for the New York Breakers, who competed in the Americas Division.
Cole Hocker is an American middle and long-distance runner. He competed collegiately for the University of Oregon, where he won multiple NCAA titles. Hocker announced in 2021 he would forgo his remaining NCAA eligibility to run professionally, signing to run under Nike.
