The Illinois Envelope Co. Building is a former industrial structure located at 400 Bryant Street (alternatively, 311 East Alcott Street) in Kalamazoo, Michigan. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. [1] In 2018, the building became the home of the Kalamazoo County Health and Community Services Department. [2]
The Illinois Envelope Company was established in 1902 in Centralia, Illinois. In 1904, the company moved to Kalamazoo at the request of the Bryant Paper Company, its major creditor, which was also located in Kalamazoo at the time. The company built this factory at the time, with additions constructed in 1941. [3] The Illinois Envelope Company remained in the building until 1998, when the company was purchased by Mail-Well. The plant was closed five months later. [4] The building remained vacant until 2016, when the Kalamazoo County Board of Commissioners agreed to renovate and lease the building for a new health and human services facility. [5] The department moved into the building in 2018. [2]
The Illinois Envelope Co. Building is a large, rectangular, three-story building, built in a mill-type frame construction. It is built of red-tan brick, and has a flat roof pierced by several saw-tooth skylights. The building was constructed to house the factory. warehouse. and offices of the company. The main entrance is through an archway located in the corner of the building. The windows are narrow, double-hung, four-over-four units with segmental-arch heads, windows. Brick additions of one and two stories are connected at the building's northeast corner. [3]

It was built in 1936 to serve as a factory for The Campana Company, which produced Italian Balm, the most popular hand lotion in the United States during The Great Depression. The Streamline Moderne and Bauhaus building features many innovative technologies, such as air conditioning. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.
Grand Rapids Cycle Company Factory was a historic manufacturing plant located at 514 Butterworth Street SW in Grand Rapids, Michigan. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004. In 2007 the building was destroyed by fire.

The Kimball Brothers Shoe Factory is a historic factory building at 335 Cypress Street in Manchester, New Hampshire. The four-story brick building was built in stages between 1885 and 1900, and was a prototypical structure from which the design of other period shoe factories in Manchester were built. Construction was overseen by Head & Dowst, a builder responsible for a number of area public buildings, including schools and prisons. It was funded by local businessmen seeking to diversify the local economy, and was leased to the Kimball Brothers, a leading shoe manufacturer in Lynn, Massachusetts. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.
The Vesta Battery Corporation (1897–1964), known until 1929 as the Vesta Accumulator Company, was an American manufacturer of automobile electrical gear. Based in Chicago, Illinois, the company was founded by a former garment worker in 1897. Originally intending to sell parts for electric bicycles, the company quickly diversified to manufacture electrical goods for the burgeoning automobile industry. At its peak, the company had branches in ten American cities. Vesta continued operations until it was purchased by Associated Battery Makers in 1964. Its 1913 factory in Chicago is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The Amazon Hosiery Mill, also known as the Amazon Knitting Mill, is a former industrial building located at 530-550 West Western Avenue in Muskegon, Michigan. It now houses the Amazon Apartments. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.
The Commercial Exchange Building, also known as the Collins Manufacturing – Jackson Automobile Company complex, is an industrial building complex located at 2301 E. Michigan Ave. in Jackson, Michigan. The building was built partly in 1895, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993. The listing included four contributing buildings.
