The Incarnate Word Cardinals baseball team represents The University of the Incarnate Word in NCAA Division I intercollegiate men's baseball competition. The Cardinals currently compete in the Southland Conference. The Cardinals play home games at Sullivan Field. The team is led by first-year head coach Ryan Shotzberger.

History

Incarnate Word baseball has compiled an all-time record of 925–719–2 (.564 winning percentage) through the 2017 season. The Cardinals have won 6 regular season conference championships and 3 conference tournament championships. The Campbell Fighting Camels baseball team is Campbell University's NCAA Division I baseball team. The team plays its home games on campus at Jim Perry Stadium, named for former Campbell Baseball and Basketball player Jim Perry. Prior to 2012, the venue was known as Taylor Field. The team currently competes as members of the Big South Conference. The Fighting Camels competed in the Big South until 1994 when they joined the Atlantic Sun Conference. The Incarnate Word Cardinals, also known as UIW Cardinals, are composed of 25 teams representing the University of the Incarnate Word in intercollegiate athletics, including men and women's basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, swimming & diving, tennis, and track and field. Men's sports include baseball and football. Women's sports include softball, synchronized swimming, and volleyball. The Cardinals compete in NCAA Division I and are members of the Southland Conference. UIW has sent multiple fencers to compete in multiple NCAA Fencing Championships ., On November 12, 2021, Incarnate Word accepted their invitation to join the Western Athletic Conference in 2022. However, on June 24, 2022, just one week before the change of conferences was scheduled to take place, Incarnate Word announced that it would remain in the Southland Conference.

The Incarnate Word Cardinals football program is the intercollegiate American football team for the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) located in San Antonio, Texas. The program began in 2009 and originally competed in NCAA Division II as members of the Lone Star Conference. In 2013, the school moved to Division I. For the 2013 season, UIW competed as a member of the Southland Conference for all sports except football. Football competed with an 11-game schedule as an Independent. UIW began playing Southland football in the 2014 season. The team plays its home games at the 6,000 seat Gayle and Tom Benson Stadium.

The Lamar Cardinals baseball team represents Lamar University and competes in the Southland Conference of the NCAA's Division I after officially rejoining the conference on July 11, 2022. The team is coached by head coach, Will Davis following Jim Gilligan's retirement at the end of the 2016 season. Except for five seasons (1987–1991), the Cardinals baseball team had been coached by Jim Gilligan since 1973. With over 1000 career wins as a head coach, Gilligan was one of the most winning coaches in NCAA history.

The 2015–16 Incarnate Word Cardinals men's basketball team represented the University of the Incarnate Word during the 2015–16 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Cardinals were led by tenth year head coach Ken Burmeister and played their home games at McDermott Convocation Center. They were members of the Southland Conference. The Cardinals finished the season with a record of 17–12, 12–6 in conference play to finish in a tie for third place.

The 2017 Southland Conference baseball tournament was held from May 24 through 27. The top eight regular season finishers of the league's thirteen teams met in the double-elimination tournament to be held at Constellation Field in Sugar Land, Texas. Sam Houston State won their sixth tournament championship to earn the conference's automatic bid to the 2017 NCAA Division I baseball tournament. Abilene Christian and Incarnate Word are ineligible for postseason play as they transition from Division II.

The Lamar Lady Cardinals soccer team represents Lamar University in NCAA Division I college soccer. The team, currently led by head coach Nathan Kogut, competes in the Southland Conference. The team's initial season was 2007. The Lady Cardinals' home stadium is the Lamar Soccer Complex located on the university's campus. The team began playing home games there starting with the 2009 season. The Lady Cardinals home stadium for the first two seasons was Cardinal Stadium now named Provost Umphrey Stadium.

The 2021 NCAA Division I women's basketball tournament was a single-elimination tournament of 64 teams to determine the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I college basketball national champion for the 2020–21 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The 39th edition of the tournament began on March 21, 2021, in sites around San Antonio, Texas, and concluded with the championship game on April 4 at the Alamodome, with the Stanford Cardinal defeating the Arizona Wildcats 54–53 to win their third NCAA title.

The Cardinals play their home games at the McDermott Center on campus in San Antonio, Texas. They finished the season 12–16, 5–9 in Southland play to finish tied in sixth place.
