The International Federation of Sports Chiropractic (French : Federation Internationale de Chiropratique du Sport or FICS) is an international organization which promotes sports chiropractic around the world. It is composed of national sports chiropractic councils, or national associations, from many countries such as Australia, Canada, Chile, Japan, Mexico, Spain, Turkey, [2] United States, and the United Kingdom. History

FICS was formed in 1987, and has its headquarters in the Maison du Sport Internationale [6] in Lausanne, Switzerland. [7] It also maintains an administrative office in Canberra, Australia. [8]

Credentials granted

The International Certificate in Sports Chiropractic (ICSC) offers an International Certificate in Sports Chiropractic (ICSC), a post-graduate professional qualification in sports chiropractic. [9] Depending on the laws of the jurisdiction in which the Doctor practices, (ICSC) may be a requirement for a chiropractor to participate as a FICS sports chiropractor at an international event. [10] [11] For example, Sports Chiropractors must complete their ICSC before being selected to provide care at Sporting Federation Games.

Awards and honors

The FICS Executive Board bestows various awards upon individuals whom they deem to have made considerable contributions to the professional specialty of sports chiropractic. These awards include "Sports Chiropractor of the Year" [12] and FICS' Gold Medal. [13] The latter is considered one of the highest awards that sports chiropractors can earn internationally.

In 2011 at the World Chiropractic Congress, in Rio de Janeiro, they awarded the "FICS' Founder's Award" to Dr. Stephen Press, one of FICS' founder and first president. [14] [15]

Pro bono work

FICS has promoted the participation of chiropractors in sports medicine teams, and has organized chiropractors to provide treatment at many national and international sporting events including the winter and summer Olympics. [11] [7] It has held Congresses in Mexico City, [16] [17] Rome, the United States (e.g., New Jersey and Washington, DC), Australia, Iowa, Montreal, and Tokyo; [18] and sent delegations to Moscow, Africa, [19] and Caracas. [20]

<span class="mw-page-title-main">World Games</span> Recurring international multi-sport event

The World Games are an international multi-sport event comprising sports and sporting disciplines that are not contested in the Olympic Games. They are usually held every four years, one year after a Summer Olympic Games, over the course of 11 days. The World Games are governed by the International World Games Association, under the patronage of the International Olympic Committee.

The Fédération Internationale de Roller Sports was the world governing body for roller sports, including skateboarding, rink hockey, inline hockey, inline speed skating, inline alpine, downhill, roller derby, roller freestyle, inline freestyle, aggressive inline skating, inline figure skating and artistic roller skating. The International World Games Association, abbreviated as IWGA, is an international association, recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), that organises every four years, beginning in 1981, the multi-sport event called The World Games.

Global Association of International Sports Federations (GAISF) was the umbrella organisation for all international sports federations as well as organisers of multi-sports games and sport-related international associations. It changed its name to SportAccord from March 2009 to April 2017 when it reverted to its former name. GAISF was an international sport organisation with 95 full members and 20 associate members.

Chiropractic education trains students in chiropractic. The entry criteria, structure, teaching methodology and nature of chiropractic programs offered at chiropractic schools vary considerably around the world. Students are trained in academic areas including scopes of practice, neurology, radiology, microbiology, psychology, ethics, biology, gross anatomy, biochemistry, spinal anatomy and more. Prospective students are also usually trained in clinical nutrition, public health, pediatrics and other health or wellness related areas.

The World Confederation of Billiards Sports (WCBS) is the international umbrella organization encompassing the major cue sports, including carom billiards, pool games of several varieties, and snooker.

Sports chiropractic is a specialty of chiropractic. It generally requires post-graduate coursework and a certification or diplomate status granted by a credentialing agency recognized in a practitioner's region.

George Joseph Goodheart, Jr., D.C. was a chiropractor who invented Thought Field Therapy and applied kinesiology.

The Internationally Certified Chiropractic Sport Science Practitioner (ICCSP) (or alternatively "physician" in those jurisdictions which allow the term), is a post-doctoral professional certification, granted by the International Federation of Sports Chiropractic (FICS), through an association with Murdoch University. It was previously referred to as the "International Chiropractic Sports Science Diploma" up until 2013.).

<span class="mw-page-title-main">CSIT (Sports)</span> International sports organization

The CSIT – International Workers and Amateurs in Sports Confederation is a international multi-sports organization. It was established as the successor to Socialist Workers' Sport International and, as such, celebrated its centenary in 2013. The core principles of contributing to physical activity and sports have stayed in its action policy; upholding the right of men and women to do sports no matter what their professionalism levels are. The key concept of CSIT's sports policy has always been "Sports for all." The policy stems from the historic ideas of the international worker sport movement.

DanceSport South Africa (DanceSport SA) (DSSA), formerly the Federation of Dance Sport South Africa (FEDANSA), is the governing body for dancesport and related dance styles in South Africa. It is an full member of the world governing body World DanceSport Federation (WDSF) and recognised by SASCOC. DanceSport SA is the sole custodian and controlling body of organised dancesport in South Africa.
