Intrasporangium calvum is a species of Gram positive, aerobic, endosporeforming bacterium. The species was initially isolated from air in a school dining room in the Soviet Union. The species was first described in 1967, and was the first and only species in the genus Intrasporangium until 2012. [1] [2] [3]

I. calvum can grow in the 20-40 °C range, and can grow in pH 6.0-8.0. [2]

Virgibacillus is a genus of Gram-positive, rod-shaped (bacillus) bacteria and a member of the phylum Firmicutes. Virgibacillus species can be obligate aerobes, or facultative anaerobes and catalase enzyme positive. Under stressful environmental conditions, the bacteria can produce oval or ellipsoidal endospores in terminal, or sometimes subterminal, swollen sporangia. The genus was recently reclassified from the genus Bacillus in 1998 following an analysis of the species V. pantothenticus. Subsequently, a number of new species have been discovered or reclassified as Virgibacillus species.

Intrasporangium is a genus of Gram positive, nonmotile, endosporeforming bacteria. The genus name refers to the ability to form sporangia intercalary in the mycelial hyphae. The family Intrasporangiaceae is named after the genus, and Intrasporangium is the type genus for the family.

Intrasporangium chromatireducens is a species of Gram positive, strictly aerobic bacterium. The species was initially isolated from manganese mining soil in Hunan Province, China. The species was first described in 2012, and its name refers to the species ability to reduce chromate.

Intrasporangium mesophilum is a species of Gram positive, strictly aerobic bacterium. The species was initially isolated from rhizospheric soil of an oilseed plant, Jatropha curcas. The species was first described in 2012, and its name refers to its mesophilic growth conditions.

Intrasporangium oryzae is a species of Gram positive, strictly aerobic bacterium. The species was initially isolated from rice paddy soil. The species was first described in 2007, and its name is derived from Latin oryzae. It was originally placed in the novel genus Humihabitans, but further research reclassified the species as a member of the existing genus, Intrasporangium. Because Humihabitans was monospecific, with H. oryzae as the only species, the genus is now defunct.

Knoellia is a genus of Gram positive, aerobic, non-endosporeforming bacteria. Species in this genus are mesophilic and have cells that are irregular rods or coccoid.
