Inverclyde East Central is one of the seven wards used to elect members of the Inverclyde Council. It elects three Councillors.

Contents

The ward includes the majority of Port Glasgow, except the Bardrainney, Broadfield, Park Farm and Woodhall neighbourhoods in the east of the town which are part of the Inverclyde East ward. The modern residential developments at Kingston Dock / 4 Quays which straddle the border between Port Glasgow and Greenock is also within the Inverclyde East Central ward, as is the Gibshill neighbourhood which also adjoins The Port but was always considered to belong to Greenock. [2] In 2019, the ward had a population of 9,512. [3]

Created in 1995, its administrative centre is based in Greenock and its territory covers the area of Inverclyde in the west of Scotland, taking over from the local government district of the same name and area which existed under the larger Strathclyde region, which was established in 1975. Prior to that, the territory was part of the historic county of Renfrewshire.

        East Kilbride Central South is one of the twenty wards used to elect members of the South Lanarkshire Council. Created in 2007, it elects three councillors. As the name suggests, its territory covers the parts of East Kilbride just south of the town centre, which includes Birniehill, Murrayhill, The Murray, Westwood and Westwoodhill with the northern boundary being the Queensway (A726) dual carriageway – a 2017 national review added a few streets around Owen Avenue/Dale Avenue which had always generally been considered to belong to The Murray neighbourhood. In 2019, the ward had a population of 16,177.

The current entity was technically created in 2017 following a boundary review, but has largely the same boundaries as the 2007 Kirkintilloch East and Twechar ward, which as its name suggests encompassed the eastern parts of Kirkintilloch and the separate village of Twechar further east, up to the boundary with Kilsyth and Cumbernauld in North Lanarkshire.
