Mark Kermode English film critic

Mark James Patrick Kermode is an English film critic and musician. He is the chief film critic for The Observer, contributes to the magazine Sight & Sound, presents the BBC Four documentary series Mark Kermode's Secrets of Cinema, co-presents the BBC Radio 5 Live show Kermode and Mayo's Film Review, and previously co-presented the BBC Two arts programme The Culture Show. 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games

The 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games, officially known as the IV Commonwealth Youth Games is a multi-sport event which took place in the British Crown Dependency of Isle of Man from 7 to 13 September 2011. As per the original quadrennial cycle, the Games were scheduled for 2012. However, the Commonwealth Games Federation at its general assembly in 2005 decided to move the Games within one year before the Summer Olympics. The Bowl Stadium at the National Sports Centre, Douglas staged the opening ceremony on 7 September 2011. The closing ceremony was held on Douglas Promenade & the Villa Marina on 13 September.

The Commonwealth Nations Bridge Championships are held in conjunction with the Commonwealth Games.

Sport in the Isle of Man

For a small country, sport in the Isle of Man plays an important part in making the island known to the wider world. The principal international sporting event held on the island is the annual Isle of Man TT motorcycling event. However, the Isle of Man is represented internationally in a number of other sports at the Commonwealth Games and the Island Games.

Stephen Philip Cummings is an English former racing cyclist, who rode professionally between 2005 and 2019 for the Landbouwkrediet–Colnago, Discovery Channel, Barloworld, Team Sky, BMC Racing Team and Team Dimension Data squads.

Stuart Slack

Stuart Slack was a racing cyclist from the Isle of Man. He was part of the first ever Manx team to participate in the British Empire and Commonwealth Games.

Peter Kennaugh British road bicycle racer

Peter Robert Kennaugh MBE is a Manx former professional racing cyclist, who rode professionally between 2010 and 2019 for Team Sky and Bora–Hansgrohe. In 2012 he won the gold medal as part of the Great Britain Team Pursuit team at the 2012 Summer Olympics, becoming the first Manxman in 100 years to win gold. On 5 April 2019, he announced that he was taking an indefinite break from professional cycling to focus on his mental health.

Hudson Kennaugh

Hudson Kennaugh is a South African professional motorcycle racer. He currently competes in the British National Superstock 1000 championship aboard a BMW S1000RR. He is a former South African Superbike champion, he rode the 2009 British Supersport Championship, for the Linxcel-Seton Tuning Team. His surname is of Manx descent and is pronounced 'Ken-Oh'.(Although, the surname on the Isle of Man is pronounced as 'Kenyk' rather like the word 'cognac' only starting with 'ken' rather than 'con')

St Ninian's High School is a secondary school located in Douglas and Onchan, on the Isle of Man. The School is set over two different sites, catering for different year groups.

India at the 2010 Commonwealth Games Sporting event delegation

India hosted the 2010 Commonwealth Games which were held in Delhi from 3 to 14 October 2010. India won 101 medals in total, including 38 Gold medals, enabling it to finish the Games at second position behind Australia. For the first time in the history of the Games India won over 100 medals in total. For the first time in the history of the Games, India won a medal in Gymnastics, where Ashish Kumar won a Silver and a Bronze. And it was after a gap of 52 years that India won a Gold in Athletics when Krishna Poonia won Gold in Women's discus throw and when Geeta Phogat won India's first ever gold medal in women's wrestling.

Tim Kennaugh is a Manx cycling coach and former racing cyclist.

Mark Christian Manx professional cyclist

Mark Peter Christian is a Manx racing cyclist, who currently rides for UCI ProTeam Eolo–Kometa.

Timothy Kneale is a Manx sport shooter who specializes in the double trap. He is the current world record holder for the event, having scored 148 out of 150 at the 2014 ISSF World Cup meet in Munich, Germany. Apart from his world-record feat, Kneale has won two medals in a major international competition, a silver at the 2015 World Shotgun Championships and a bronze as a representative of the Isle of Man team at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India.

Laura Wasley is a Manx cyclist who has represented the Isle of Man at the 2011 Island Games and the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Wasley works as a civil servant.

Abi Van Twisk British cyclist

Abigail Anna Van Twisk is a British professional racing cyclist, who most recently rode for UCI Women's WorldTeam Trek–Segafredo. Prior to joining Trek–Segafredo in 2019, Van Twisk rode for the Corley Cycles–Drops RT/Drops team between 2015 and 2018. She competed in the road race at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast. She is coached by Tim Kennaugh. In September 2020, Trek–Segafredo announced that Van Twisk would go on maternity leave to give birth to her first child, due in February 2021.

Isle of Man at the 2018 Commonwealth Games Sporting event delegation

Isle of Man competed at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in the Gold Coast, Australia from April 4 to April 15, 2018. Isle of Man announced it would send a squad of 32 athletes. However, Mark Cavendish did not compete.

Dr John Clague was a Manx physician and a collector of Manx music, songs, dances, and customs.
