Ismail Ergashevitch Ergashev (Uzbek :Ismoil Ergashevitch Ergashev) was an Uzbek general who has served as second person to hold the post of Chief of the Joint Headquarters of the Armed Forces of the Armed Forces of Uzbekistan from 2004 to 2005. [1] He was one of the first military leaders of Uzbekistan. [2]
He was born on August 5,1945,in the Chelak District of the Samarqand Region. Over the years,he served in various command positions. After the Dissolution of the Soviet Union,he headed the department of artillery of the Ministry of Defense,after which he was commander of artillery until 1997. [3] From 1997 to 1999,he was deputy minister of defense for logistics and capital construction,and from 1999 to 2000 was deputy minister of defense for combat training. He became the first head of the Central Military District,serving until 2004. That same year,he became First Deputy Minister of Defense and Chief of the Joint Headquarters of the Armed Forces,succeeding Tulkun Kasimov. He retired from service in 2005. [4]
Ergashev was awarded such high state awards as the Shon-Sharaf Order to the I and II degrees and the Order of Jalal ad-Din Mingburnu.
From 2005 to 2007,Ergashev was banned from entering the European Union for his involvement in suppressing the 2005 Andijan unrest. [5] He died on 24 February 2018 at the age of 73. The next day the State Museum of the Armed Forces of Uzbekistan held a farewell ceremony with Major General Ergashev. His burial took place at a cemetery in the Samarkand Region,he was born and raised. [6]
His son Pavel Ergashev later served as Chief of the General Staff from 2018 to 2021.
The Armed Forces of the Republic of Uzbekistan,is the name of the unified armed forces of Uzbekistan,consisting of the Ground Force and the Air and Air Defence forces under the defence ministry). Paramilitary units include the National Guard,a Frontier Service and a River Force. It is reported to be the largest,and the strongest in Central Asia. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan,is a body of the Government of Uzbekistan that is charged with the internal affairs of Uzbekistan and oversees the national police. The Ministry of Internal Affairs was founded on 25 August 1991. It replaced the Soviet Interior Ministry. The current Minister of Internal Affairs is Pulat Bobojonov. The ministry holds joint control over the Armed Forces of the Republic of Uzbekistan. It also administers the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs,which is the official educational institution of the ministry.
The Uzbek Ground Forces are the land component of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Operating since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991,the army is made up of former Soviet Army units that were in the territory of Uzbekistan. As of 2006,it had around 40,000 active personnel. Much of the equipment it uses is also old Soviet material,and the government of Uzbekistan has not given much effort to replace it with modern equipment.

In wartime,the defense minister also serves in an official capacity as the Deputy Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the military. The General Staff,the executive body of the Ministry of Defense,implements the defense minister's operational instructions and orders. The Oliy Majlis exercises legislative authority over the Ministry of Defense through the Government of Uzbekistan,which is nominally responsible for maintaining the armed forces at the appropriate level of readiness.
Qobul Raimovich Berdiev (Russian:КабулРаимовичБердиев,Uzbek:Qobul Rayimovich Berdiyev is an Uzbek military officer who has served as Minister of Defence of Uzbekistan from September 17,2008 to September 4,2017. He holds the rank of Colonel General.

The Academy of the Armed Forces of Uzbekistan is a body for the training of highly qualified military personnel for the Armed Forces of the Republic of Uzbekistan. It was originally established as an inter-service educational institution that serves the purpose of training officers for higher level leadership positions. Cadets who study at the academy are enrolled for at least 2 years. It was the first institution of its kind to be established on the militaries of Central Asia. The school requires all cadets to be fluent in the Uzbek language as well as have a basic knowledge of Russian.
The Chief of the General Staff of the Ministry of Defense of Uzbekistan is the highest-ranking military officer of in the Armed Forces of the Republic of Uzbekistan,who is responsible for maintaining the operational command of the military and control over three of the five service branches. Unlike the Minister of Defence,the Chief of the General Staff is required to be a commissioned officer who at least holds the rank of Colonel (Polkovnik). Another differentiator between the two positions is that the Chief of the General Staff is not political position while the defense minister can be an active member of the political discourse.

Major General Pavel Ismailovich Ergashev is an Uzbek military leader who is a Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Uzbekistan. He was appointed to this position on 11 January 2018 and was dismissed in March 2021. He is the son of former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff,Major General Ismail Ergashev. He was among 12 high-ranking officials were banned from entering the European Union for a year in November 2005 for their role in putting down the 2005 Andijan unrest. At the time,he was a Colonel who commanded of a detachment of from the Ministry of Defense. On 4 September 2017,he was appointed by Shavkat Mirziyoyev to the post of Acting Deputy Minister of Defense and commander of the troops of the Southwestern Special Military District.
