Italy has competed at every edition of the World Athletics Race Walking Team Championships (IAAF World Race Walking Cup until 2016, than IAAF World Race Walking Team Championships until 2018) form Lugano 1961. [1]

The World Athletics Race Walking Team Championships is a racewalking event organised by the International Association of Athletics Federations. It has been held since 1961, and generally on a biennial basis. Women first entered the 1979 edition. It was formerly known as the Lugano Cup after the city that hosted the first event, then became the IAAF World Race Walking Cup until 2016 and than IAAF World Race Walking Team Championships until 2018. In 2004, a junior division was added, consisting of men and women aged under 20. Since 2008 it has been a constituent meeting of the IAAF Race Walking Challenge.
The 1995 IAAF World Race Walking Cup was held on 29 and 30 April 1995 in the streets of Beijing, China. The event was also known as IAAF/Reebok World Race Walking Cup.

The 2014 IAAF World Race Walking Cup was held in Taicang, China, on 3–4 May 2014. The course was a 2 km loop along Shanghai Road between Banjing Road and Loujiang Road in the centre of the city. It has already been used for the annual IAAF World Race Walking Challenge event. Detailed reports on the event and an appraisal of the results was given for the IAAF.
Åke Wilhelm Söderlund was a Swedish racewalking athlete. He competed at the 1952, 1960 and 1964 Summer Olympics with the best result of 18th place in the 20 km event in 1964.
Paolo Grecucci is an Italian former racewalking athlete. He was a five-time participant at the IAAF World Race Walking Cup and was a bronze medallist in the 50 kilometres race walk at the event in 1977.
Lugano Trophy, set up in 1961 at the occasion of the first edition of the IAAF World Race Walking Cup, so in the Lugano 1961 edition, represented the team rankings that combined the 20 km race walk and 50 km race walk events. It was held until 1997 and since 1993 two different team rankings were drawn for 20 km and for 50 km, so for three editions, three titles were assigned for team race.
The 2018 IAAF World Race Walking Team Championships was the 28th edition of the global team racewalking competition organised by the International Association of Athletics Federations.
The Italian team at the running events represents Italy at senior level at the road running, racewalking, cross country running and track long-distance running events, such as World championships, World of European Cups.
