Jack Alexander Brooks (born 4 June 1984) is an English professional cricket player,currently playing for Somerset after successful spells at Oxfordshire in the Minor Counties,and Northamptonshire and Yorkshire in first-class cricket. [1] He is predominantly a right arm medium fast bowler who can also bat.
Brooks played for Oxfordshire between 2004 and 2008. He played for Northamptonshire Second XI at the end of the 2008 season before signing a professional contract with the club for the 2009 season. He made his professional debut against the Australian tourist team taking the wickets of Andrew McDonald and Mitchell Johnson. [2] He hoped that his performance against Australia would lead to more first-class matches. [3] On his Northants debut,he took 4 wickets for 76 against Derbyshire. [4] He signed a two-year contract extension on 2 September 2009,keeping him at the club until the end of the 2011 season. [5] During the 2010 season,Brooks was a regular in the team opening the bowling.
Brooks signed up to play for Yorkshire in October 2012, [6] becoming a key part of the county's back-to-back Championship wins in 2014 and 2015.
In the 2016 County Championship season,he took more wickets in Division One than any other fast bowler. [7] [ circular reference ]
During the 2017 season Brooks scored his maiden first class century against Yorkshire's rivals Lancashire,helping to earn his team a valuable draw in their fight for Division 1 survival.
Jack is known for his trademark headband,earning him the nickname "The Headband Warrior",originally worn functionally to keep his lustrous,flowing locks out of his eyes while bowling,Jack has continued wearing the headband as an affectation despite a new,shorter hair style.
On 28 August 2018,Brooks agreed a three-year contract with Somerset ahead of the 2019 season. [8]
In November 2021,Brooks became involved in the Azeem Rafiq racism scandal after he was named at the DCMS hearing on 16 November as having given Cheteshwar Pujara the nickname 'Steve',even though Pujara preferred his first name. [9] It also came to light that Brooks had made use of possibly offensive language in two Twitter responses to friends of African heritage. Somerset have launched an investigation against him. [10]
Matthew James Hoggard,is a former English cricketer,who played international cricket for England cricket team from 2000 to 2008,playing both Test cricket and One Day Internationals. The 6' 2" Hoggard was a right arm fast-medium bowler and right-handed batsman.
Ian Joseph Harvey is a former Australian cricketer. He was an all-rounder who played 73 One Day Internationals for Australia and was named as one of the five Wisden Cricketers of the Year for 2004 for his performances in county cricket. He was a part of the Australian squad which won the 2003 Cricket World Cup.
David Harry Wigley is an English former first-class cricketer. He latterly played for Northamptonshire County Cricket Club,his third county after previously playing for Yorkshire and then Worcestershire,until his early retirement from the game in 2010. He was a right arm fast medium bowler and right-handed batsman.
James Middlebrook is a former English first-class cricketer,who last played for Yorkshire County Cricket Club on a short-term contract. He played as an all-rounder,batting right-handed and bowling off spin. Since retiring from professional cricket Middlebrook has become an umpire,standing in first-class matches from the 2017 season onwards.
Niall John O'Brien is a former Irish cricketer and a cricket commentator. He is a left-handed batsman and wicket-keeper. Domestically O'Brien began his professional career with Kent in 2004 before joining Northamptonshire at the start of 2007,spending six seasons there before joining Leicestershire for 2013.

Azeem Rafiq is an English cricketer who played professionally in England for Yorkshire County Cricket Club. A right-arm off-spin bowler,Rafiq played for the county between 2008 and 2014 and 2016 and 2018,making his senior debut at the age of 17. He captained the England under-15 and under-19 sides,and in 2012 became the youngest man to captain a Yorkshire side as well as the first person of Asian origin to do so.
Alex George Wakely is an English former cricketer who played for Northamptonshire and was also a former captain of the England under-19s. He is a right-hand batsman,bowls off-breaks and sometimes medium pace bowling. In May 2021,Wakely announced his retirement from all forms of cricket.

The 2018 County Championship,known as the 2018 Specsavers County Championship for sponsorship reasons,is the 119th cricket County Championship season. As in 2017,Division One has eight teams and Division Two has ten teams,with two teams relegated and two promoted at the end of the season.

The 2020 Bob Willis Trophy was a first-class cricket tournament held in the 2020 English cricket season,and the inaugural edition of the Bob Willis Trophy. It was separate from the County Championship,which was not held in 2020 due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United Kingdom. The eighteen county cricket teams were split into three regional groups of six,with the two group winners with the most points advancing to a final held at Lord's. The maximum number of overs bowled in a day was reduced from 96 to 90,and the team's first innings could be no longer than 120 overs.
The 2021 County Championship was the 121st cricket County Championship season in England and Wales. For the first phase of the tournament,the teams were split into three groups of six,with each side playing ten matches. The top two teams from each group progressed into Division One for the second phase of the competition,with the other teams progressing to Divisions Two and Three. The team that finished top of Division One became the county champions;and the top two teams from Division One contested a five-day match at Lord's for the Bob Willis Trophy. The Yorkshire County Cricket Club alleged racism scandal developed from complaints made in 2018 by former Yorkshire cricket player,Azeem Rafiq. Rafiq alleged that he was subjected to racist abuse and bullying during his two tenures at the club between 2008–2014,and 2016–2018 and accused the club of being institutionally racist. He complained officially in 2018,but an independent inquiry was not launched until 2020,leading to criticism of Yorkshire County Cricket Club (YCCC) for its handling of the affair. The chairperson resigned in November 2021,being replaced by Kamlesh Patel. Two former England players have been alleged to have used racist language whilst playing for the club.
The 2022 County Championship was the 122nd cricket County Championship season in England and Wales. The season began on 7 April and ended on 29 September 2022. Warwickshire were the defending champions.
