The Republic of New Afrika (RNA), founded in 1968 as the Republic of New Africa (RNA), is a black nationalist organization and black separatist movement popularized by black freedom fighters groups in the United States. The larger New Afrika movement in particular has three goals:
Harvey Johnson Jr., is an American politician from Mississippi. He was elected in 1997 as the first African American Mayor of Jackson, Mississippi, serving two terms. He was known for his achievements in gaining reinvestment in the city to revitalize downtown.
Michael M. Baden is an American physician and board-certified forensic pathologist known for his work investigating high-profile deaths and as the host of HBO's Autopsy. He is the Forensic Science Contributor for FOX News Channel and was a frequent guest on Fox News's late-night satire program Red Eye w/ Greg Gutfeld where he was known as the Death Correspondent. Baden has been author or co-author of more than 80 professional articles and books on aspects of forensic medicine and two non-fiction books, Unnatural Death, Confessions of a Medical Examiner and Dead Reckoning, the New Science of Catching Killers. He is also the author, with his wife, attorney Linda Kenney Baden, of two forensic thrillers, Remains Silent and Skeleton Justice.
Patrice Lumumba (1925–1961) was the first Prime Minister of the Congo.
Akinyele Umoja is an American educator and author who specializes in African-American studies. As an activist, he is a founding member of the New Afrikan People's Organization and the Malcolm X Grassroots Movement. In April 2013, New York University Press published Umoja's book We Will Shoot Back: Armed Resistance in the Mississippi Freedom Movement. Currently, he is a Professor and Department Chair of the Department of African-American Studies at Georgia State University (GSU).
Chokwe is a Bantu language spoken by the Chokwe people of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Angola and Zambia. It is recognised as a national language of Angola, where half a million people spoke it in 1991. Another half a million speakers lived in the Congo in 1990, and some 20,000 in Zambia in 2010. Angola's Instituto de Línguas Nacionais has established spelling rules for Chokwe with a view to facilitate and promote its use. It is used as a lingua franca in eastern Angola.
Tony Tarzell Yarber is an American pastor, educator and politician in Jackson, Mississippi. In April 2014 he was elected as Mayor of Jackson in a special election following the death in office of Chokwe Lumumba. A native of Jackson and experienced city councillor, Yarber is noted for his passion for youth causes, and has been described as "a consensus builder". He was succeeded as Mayor of Jackson by his predecessor's son Chokwe Antar Lumumba on July 3, 2017.

This off-year election featured gubernatorial elections in Virginia and New Jersey, as well as state legislative elections in both houses of the New Jersey Legislature and in the Virginia House of Delegates. Numerous citizen initiatives, mayoral races, and a variety of other local elections also occurred. Special elections were also held for one seat of the U.S. Senate, representing Alabama, and six seats of the U.S. House of Representatives.

The election was officially nonpartisan, with the top two candidates from the September 12 primary election advancing to the general election, regardless of party. Incumbent Democratic Mayor Frank G. The 2009 mayoral election in Jackson, Mississippi took place on June 2, 2009, alongside other Jackson municipal races. Former mayor Harvey Johnson, Jr. was elected after defeating councilman Marshand Crisler and incumbent mayor Frank Melton in the primary. Melton died on May 7, 2009, two days after not making the runoff in the Democratic primary.
The 2014 mayoral election in Jackson, Mississippi took place on April 22, 2014. It was necessitated after the death of incumbent mayor Chokwe Lumumba. Councilman Tony Yarber defeated the late Lumumba's son Chokwe Antar Lumumba in a runoff. Other candidates in the race included former mayor Harvey Johnson, Jr., city council members Melvin Priester and Margaret Barrett-Simon, and state senator John Horhn.
The 2021 United States elections will be held, in large part, on Tuesday, November 2, 2021. This off-year election includes the regular gubernatorial elections in New Jersey and Virginia. State legislative elections will also be held in New Jersey and the Virginia House of Delegates. Numerous citizen initiatives, mayoral races, and a variety of other local elections will also occur. Special elections to the United States Congress will take place if vacancies arise.
The 2018 Louisville mayoral election was the fifth quadrennial Louisville Metro mayoral election, held on Tuesday, November 6, 2018. The Democratic ticket of incumbent mayor and businessman Greg Fischer was elected to his third and final term. He defeated the Republican ticket of engineer and former Louisville Metro Councilwoman Angela Leet.
