The 2017 Cincinnati mayoral election took place on November 7, 2017, to elect the Mayor of Cincinnati, Ohio. The election was officially nonpartisan, with the top two candidates from the May 2 primary election advancing to the general election, regardless of party. Incumbent Democratic Mayor John Cranley won re-election to a second term.

Cincinnati City in Ohio

Cincinnati is a major city in the U.S. state of Ohio, and is the government seat of Hamilton County. Settled in 1788, the city is located at the northern side of the confluence of the Licking and Ohio rivers, the latter of which marks the state line with Kentucky. The city drives the Cincinnati–Middletown–Wilmington combined statistical area, which had a population of 2,172,191 in the 2010 census making it Ohio's largest metropolitan area. With a population of 301,301, Cincinnati is the third-largest city in Ohio and 65th in the United States. Its metropolitan area is the fastest growing economic power in the Midwestern United States based on increase of economic output and it is the 28th-largest metropolitan statistical area in the U.S. Cincinnati is also within a day's drive of 49.70% of the United States populace.

John Cranley American lawyer and politician

John Cranley is the mayor of Cincinnati, Ohio. A member of the Democratic Party, he was a member of the Cincinnati City Council and a partner of City Lights Development. Cranley is a graduate of Harvard Law School and Harvard Divinity School and co-founder of the Ohio Innocence Project at the University of Cincinnati College of Law. Before his election as mayor, he was an attorney with the law firm of Keating Muething & Klekamp.

Founded in 1819 as Cincinnati College, it is the oldest institution of higher education in Cincinnati and has an annual enrollment of over 44,000 students, making it the second largest university in Ohio. It is part of the University System of Ohio.

Yvette Renee Simpson is an American politician, lawyer, and former member of the Cincinnati City Council.

The Cincinnati City Council is the lawmaking body of Cincinnati, Ohio. The nine-member city council is elected at-large in a single election in which each voter chooses nine candidates from the field. The nine top vote-getters win seats on the council for a four-year term.

Greg Hartmann

Greg Hartmann was a member of the three-member Board of Commissioners in Hamilton County, Ohio. He was elected to his first term in January 2009, and was re-elected to a second term in January 2013. He served as the President of the Board in 2011 and 2012. He is a member of the Republican Party. During his time as Commissioner, Hartmann has focused on cost savings and efficiency in County government, economic development and public safety. Hartmann has also supported and spearheaded the creation of several important community outreach initiatives.

Christopher E.C. Smitherman is the Vice Mayor of Cincinnati, Ohio. An Independent, Smitherman is currently serving his third consecutive term on Cincinnati City Council. Smitherman won his first council election in 2003 and served one term from 2003 - 2005. In April 2007, Smitherman was elected President of the Cincinnati chapter of the NAACP where he served until 2013. Smitherman has served consecutive terms on Cincinnati City Council since 2011 and, after winning reelection in November 2017, was appointed by Mayor John Cranley to serve as Vice Mayor. That same year, Cranley appointed Smitherman to the Cincinnati Planning Commission. Since 2011, Smitherman has chaired the Law and Public Safety Committee, giving him jurisdiction to oversee all city issues related to Police; Fire; Safety Policies; Citizen Complaint Authority; Liquor Licenses; and Public Services. Christopher Smitherman is currently a candidate for Mayor of Cincinnati.

Cincinnati Bell Connector

The Cincinnati Bell Connector, previously known as the Cincinnati Streetcar, is a streetcar system in Cincinnati, Ohio, United States. The system opened to passengers on September 9, 2016. The streetcar operates on a 3.6-mile (5.8 km) loop from The Banks, Great American Ball Park, and Smale Riverfront Park through Downtown Cincinnati and north to Findlay Market in the northern edge of the Over-the-Rhine neighborhood. The 2017 Pittsburgh mayoral election took place on November 7, 2017. The primary election was held on May 16, 2017. Incumbent Democratic Mayor Bill Peduto successfully ran for re-election to a second term. Three Democrats, including Peduto, and no Republicans filed petitions to appear on the respective primary ballots before the deadline on March 7, 2017. Peduto won the Democratic primary and was officially unopposed in the general election.

After high school, he joined the Cincinnati police cadet program, and served the city of Cincinnati as a police officer for the next 27 years. In 2005, following his retirement from the police force, Thomas ran and won election to Cincinnati City Council, where he served for the next 8 years.

2016 Ohios 8th congressional district special election

A special election to the United States House of Representatives for Ohio's 8th congressional district was held to determine the successor to John Boehner, who resigned his seat on October 31, 2015. Republican Governor of Ohio John Kasich set the primary election for March 15, 2016, and the general election for June 7. The winner of the June special election ran for reelection in November 2016 but served the remainder of Boehner's two-year term, which ended in early January 2017.

2018 South Carolina gubernatorial election

The 2018 South Carolina gubernatorial election was held on November 6, 2018, to elect the Governor of South Carolina. Incumbent Republican Governor Henry McMaster ran for election to a full term. The primary was held on June 12, with the Democrats nominating James E. Smith Jr.. Governor McMaster, having failed to win a majority of the vote, defeated John Warren in the Republican runoff on June 26. McMaster defeated Smith in the general election, thereby winning election to a full term.

Tony Evers defeated Scott Walker to become governor-elect of Wisconsin, with his running mate Mandela Barnes becoming lieutenant governor-elect.

Incumbent Republican Governor Brian Sandoval, was not eligible to run for reelection due to term limits established by the Nevada Constitution. Nevada is one of eight states that prohibits its governors from serving more than two terms for life.

The Democratic ticket of incumbent mayor and businessman Greg Fischer was elected to his third and final term. He defeated the Republican ticket of engineer and former Louisville Metro Councilwoman Angela Leet.
