The 2017 Cleveland mayoral election took place on November 7, 2017, to elect the Mayor of Cleveland, Ohio. The election was officially nonpartisan, with the top two candidates from the September 12 primary election advancing to the general election, regardless of party. Incumbent Democratic Mayor Frank G. Jackson won reelection to a fourth term.

Cleveland is a major city in the U.S. state of Ohio, and the county seat of Cuyahoga County. The city proper has a population of 385,525, making it the 51st-largest city in the United States, and the second-largest city in Ohio. Greater Cleveland is ranked as the 32nd-largest metropolitan area in the U.S., with 2,055,612 people in 2016. The city anchors the Cleveland–Akron–Canton Combined Statistical Area, which had a population of 3,515,646 in 2010 and is ranked 15th in the United States.

Now serving in his fourth term, he is the longest-serving mayor in Cleveland history.

East Cleveland is a city in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, United States, and is the first suburb of Cleveland. The population was 17,843 at the 2010 census. East Cleveland is bounded by the city of Cleveland to its north, west, and a small section of its southwestern edge, and by Cleveland Heights to the east and the majority of its southern limits.

Jeffrey D. Johnson is an American politician of the Democratic Party from Cleveland, Ohio. He is a member of Cleveland City Council representing Ward 10, and previously served as councilman for Ward 8 from 1984 to 1990 and later as a member of the Ohio Senate, from 1990 to 1998. Johnson was raised in the Collinwood neighborhood and graduated from Collinwood High School. He holds a bachelor's degree in communications from Kent State University and a J.D. degree and a master's degree in political science from Case Western Reserve University. He also attended John Carroll University and Cornell University.

The 2018 United States Senate election in Ohio took place November 6, 2018. The candidate filing deadline was February 7, 2018, and the primary election was held May 8, 2018. Democratic U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown—the only elected Democratic statewide officeholder in Ohio as of July 2017—won re-election to a third term, defeating Republican U.S. Representative Jim Renacci in the general election.

The 2018 United States House of Representatives elections in Ohio were held on November 6, 2018, to elect the 16 U.S. Representatives from the U.S. state of Ohio, one from each of the state's 16 congressional districts. The elections coincided with other elections to the House of Representatives, elections to the United States Senate and various state and local elections.

The 2017 Charlotte mayoral election took place on Tuesday, November 7, 2017. Party primary elections were held on Tuesday, September 12, 2017. Second-round primaries would have been held on Tuesday, October 10, 2017, if they had been necessary, but both primary winners received more than the minimum 40 percent of the vote needed to avoid a runoff. The incumbent, Democrat Jennifer Roberts, was eligible to run for a second two-year term. She ran but lost the Democratic nomination in the primary. Two members of the City Council, Democrat Vi Lyles and Republican Kenny Smith, won the primaries and advanced to face each other in the general election. Vi Lyles defeated Kenny Smith in the general election, and became the 59th mayor of Charlotte, North Carolina.
