Jacob Batalon (born October 9, 1996) is an American actor. Batalon achieved international recognition playing Ned Leeds in five Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) superhero films, beginning with a supporting role in Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), cameos in Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019), and further supporting roles in Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) and Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), also appearing in the web series The Daily Bugle (2019–2021). He also played Keon in the Netflix film Let It Snow (2019), and the titular character in the Syfy television series Reginald the Vampire (2022–present).

Early life

Jacob Batalon was born on October 9, 1996, [1] [2] [3] in Hawaii, to Filipino parents. [4] Batalon has seven half-siblings: a brother and a sister from his mother, and three brothers and two sisters from his father. [5]

Upon graduating from the private Catholic school St. Anthony's School, he went to Damien Memorial School, then Batalon attended Kapiʻolani Community College to study music theory, but later dropped out. He then took a two-year program to study acting at the New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts. [6]

Career

Batalon made his acting debut in the 2016 film North Woods. [7]

As part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he first appeared as Peter Parker's best friend Ned Leeds in Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017). [8] [9] It was Batalon's first major role. [10] He reprised the role in Avengers: Infinity War (2018), [11] Avengers: Endgame , [12] Spider-Man: Far From Home , (both 2019) [13] and Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021). [14]

In 2018, Batalon played one of the bodies inhabited by spirit A in the young-adult film Every Day . [15]

In 2021, Batalon was cast as the titular Reginald in Syfy's dramedy series Reginald the Vampire . [16]

Personal life

In 2021, he lost 102 pounds (46 kg) for his role in Spider-Man: No Way Home. [17]

Edward "Ned" Leeds is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. A supporting character in stories featuring the superhero Spider-Man, he has been a reporter for the Daily Bugle, and husband of Betty Brant. Leeds is one of the characters that appears under the mantle of the supervillain Hobgoblin, for a long time believed to be his true identity. However, ten years following his assassination, he is retroactively established to have been brainwashed to serve as a stand-in for Roderick Kingsley and later left to be killed when he was no longer deemed necessary. The character was revived in a 2018–2022 storyline, with both Ned and Roderick brainwashed again by the Queen Goblin to serve as Hobgoblins once more, in service to her. Spider-Man in film dates back to 1977, the rights belonging to Marvel until 1999, when Sony bought them for $7 million. He has been Marvel's most successful character in the cinema industry ever since. After selling the Spider-Man motion picture rights to Sony, Marvel eventually founded its own studio, developing the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) based on the characters they still held the rights to. This would change in 2016, when Sony and Disney entered an agreement to include Spider-Man in the MCU. Reginald the Vampire is an American comedy horror television series which premiered on Syfy on October 5, 2022. The series stars Jacob Batalon as overweight vampire Reginald Andres. In January 2023, the series was renewed for a second season which is set to premiere on May 8, 2024.
