Jagbir Singh Chhina (1920-2012) was a freedom fighter who worked during the freedom movement with Comrade Achhar Singh Chhina, Pratap Singh Kairon, Sohan Singh Josh, Mohan Singh Batth, Gurdial Singh Dhillon and Harkishan Singh Surjeet against the British empire. He has served the community since 1938 as an active member of society.
At the age of 26, when 'Mogha Morcha of Harsha Chhina' was launched in 1946 under the leadership of Achhar Singh Chhina of the Communist party against the ruling government, Chhina was arrested along with 950 protestors and detained in Bostal Jail Lahore for three months. [1] [2] He played an active role in the Harse Chhina Mogha Morcha rebellion in 1947. [3]
As a result of this movement, all political parties successfully negotiated with the ruling British government to give farming water to the agriculturalists as per the agreement. [4] [5]
After the independence of India (1958), he became the political advisor of S. Pratap Singh Kairon, Chief Minister of Punjab and actively worked with him in the same position till 1964.
Chhina was an independent activist who had seen the dream of an independent India at the age of 14. He was actively involved with the freedom movement and dedicated his whole life to society. During his political career, he started two educational institutes and gave one educational, sports and cultural club to society. He is the founder of Khalsa High School, Gurdwara Guru ka Bagh, Naveen Janta High School, Harsha Chhina known as Comrade Achhar Singh Chhina Sr. Sec. School and Comrade Achhar Singh Chhina Sports and Educational Trust.
Chhina demanded a powerhouse to give a regular supply of power to farmers. As a result, the Punjab Government set up the government's first power house in 1960 at Kukranwala.[ citation needed ]
As Subdivision Ajnala was affected by the river Ravi every year until 1970, Chhina requested the Punjab government to set up Construction Division to build roads and bridges over the Sakki Nala and Sakki Nala flood diversions to save the life and crops of the villagers living near to the Ravi and Sakki Nalla. The Punjab Government developed a strategic plan dedicated to the Ajnala subdivision and dedicated this task to the PWD department to save this area from yearly floods.

Harsha Chhina Block Because Chhina demanded a separate block for the focused development of this specific area, the Punjab government set up this block. As per the Administrative Division of Amritsar, Harsha Chhina is one of the eight blocks which has its own local government for the development of the area.
Punjab Government and Government of India declared Chhina a freedom fighter and awarded Tamra Patras as honour.
As a participants of the Harsha Chhina Mogha Morcha, he was recognized as freedom fighters by the Indian government, and entitled freedom fighter pensions from the Freedom Fighters and Rehabilitation Division. [6] [7]

Freedom Fighters & Rehabilitation Division, a division of the Ministry of Home Affairs of India, manages the Swathantra Sainik Samman Pension Scheme - a national pension scheme introduced in 1972 for Freedom Fighters and their dependents. The division also handles rehabilitation assistance for refugees and migrants from Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Tibet. However, there was significant resistance to implementing the scheme. For example, it took 24 years of legal fighting for S. M. Shanmugam to finally receive his pension in August 2006.
The Harsha Chhina Mogha Morcha was an agrarian revolt in Harsha Chhina, Punjab, India, that took place in 1946 under the leadership of the Communist Party of India. Harsha Chhina is a village near RajaSansi Airport, Amritsar.The Morcha started in response to a decision taken by the British Government to decrease the supply of irrigation water to farmers by remodelling the moghas. The Morcha was headed by Comrade Achhar Singh Chhina, Sohan Singh Josh, Mohan Singh Baath, Baba Karam Singh Cheema, Jagbir Singh Chhina, and Gurdial Singh Tapiala. On the afternoon of 16 July 1946, Achhar Singh Chhina led a Jatha of 15 members from Harcha Chhina Village. On his shoulders he carried an Iron Kahi. The declared aim was to remove one of the existing outlets placed by the canal department and substitute it with the bigger outlet carried by the Jatha. The Jatha, whose members carried their respective party flags, proceeded toward the Canal distributary, followed by the big crowd. Before they could reach the canal, the police stepped in, arrested them and whisked them away to Amritsar. The pattern was repeated on subsequent days as well. During this movement 950 freedom fighters were arrested by police and detained in Lahore jail for three months.
Harsha Chhina is a village in the state of Punjab, India, three kilometers from Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport, Amritsar, on Ajnala Road. Harse is an Urdu word which means three villages. It is one of biggest villages in Ajnala and Rajasansi Constituency. It has a population of about 6,500. Until 1968 the village had one Panchayat and thereafter each sub village got respective new Panchayats. However, now there is another sub village Kukranwala with independent panchayat that has evolved from this village. Harsha Chhina, previously under Block Development Office Chogawan, has now itself become a new Block Development Office, situated in Kukranwala. Harsha Chhina is also referred as Chhine The Wale, because there used to be an ancient, huge and tall mountain-like structure known as The in Punjabi, situated about half a kilometre west of Vichla Quila. This The was visible from surrounding villages in an approximately 10-kilometre radius. This prominent feature, which existed until the late 1990s, has disappeared, as it has been leveled and illegally occupied by the neighbouring farmers.
Gyani Labh Singh Ji Bhikhi was a freedom fighter from India and a preacher of Sikhism (Pracharak). He was born in Village Bhikhi, Sheikhupura District, now in Pakistan. From childhood, he spend his life in participating in the fight against the British Raj, for India's independence. Wherever he went for delivering speeches for Independence, thousands of people came to listen him from far away places. It is a fact that sometimes he gave speeches to crowd of thousands without the aid of a microphone or speaker. He was a very daring, patriotic and straight forward person. He went to jail several times. He did not believe in and was against the caste system, that's why he added his village name 'Bhikhi' to his name instead of his surname/caste i.e. Kalra. He did not believe in superstitions. He was very much active in Jaito da Morcha, Guru Ke Bagh ka Morcha, Gurudwara Sudhar Lehar, Rail Roko Andolan, Chabiyaan da Morcha and many more. He wrote essays, poems and other writing material which encouraged his countrymen to fight jointly for their country's freedom and he also served Punjabi Literature warmly from every side.

Baldev Mann was a left-wing activist of the Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) New Democracy. He was a state level leader of Kirti Kisan Union and the editor of Hirawal Dasta a revolutionary journal of the Naxalites. On 26 September 1986 he was killed by terrorists while on his way to his village, Bagga Kalan, in Amritsar district of Punjab. Her daughter is Sonia Mann.
The 1962 Punjab Legislative Assembly election was the Third Vidhan Sabha election of the state when the Indian National Congress emerged as the largest party with 90 seats in the 154-seat legislature in the election. The Shiromani Akali Dal became the official opposition, holding 16 seats. From 5 July 1966 to 1 November 1966, Assembly was under suspension.
