Jai is a 2025 Indian Kannada-Tulu language political drama film directed and co-written by Roopesh Shetty along with Venu Hasralli. [1] Produced under the banners RS Cinemas, Mugrody Productions, and Shoolin Films, the film stars Roopesh Shetty, Raj Deepak Shetty, Adhvithi Shetty, Aravind Bolar, Devadas Kapikad, and Naveen D Padil in pivotal roles. [2] Actor Suniel Shetty feature in a cameo role marking his debut in Tulu cinema. [3]
The film was released theatrically on 14 November 2025 across Karnataka and coastal regions. The film created a record for a Tulu film by securing 1,020 shows on its opening day, making it one of the most widely screened regional films in recent years. [4]
Set in Simhabettu village in Coastal Karnataka, the story revolves around Satya (Roopesh Shetty), a sharp and loyal young man who works for the local MLA Vishwanath (Raj Deepak Shetty). Initially, Satya ignores the village's long-standing issues, such as the absence of a bridge and lack of medical facilities. However, when these problems personally affect his family, Satya decides to fight for his people. The narrative explores themes of political manipulation, social responsibility, and grassroots activism, interspersed with humor and romance involving Shravya (Adhvithi Shetty). A cameo by Suniel Shetty adds weight to the film's message about accountability and voting rights. [5]
The film was conceptualized by Roopesh Shetty after his stint in reality television, aiming to showcase coastal Karnataka's socio-political struggles through cinema. The script was co-written with Venu Hasrali, blending political drama, comedy, and regional culture.
Principal photography took place in Mangaluru and surrounding villages, capturing authentic Tulu landscapes and dialect. The cinematography was handled by Vinuth K, and editing by Deekshith Alva.
Roopesh Shetty played the lead role, while Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty was roped in for a cameo to attract a wider audience. Popular Tulu actors like Aravind Bolar and Devadas Kapikad were cast for comic relief and cultural authenticity
Promotional campaigns highlighted the film's regional pride and political message, with teasers and trailers released on social media and YouTube. The makers emphasized that Jai was a “bridge between entertainment and activism.”
