Jaime H. Barlucea Maldonado (born February 14,1971) is a Puerto Rican politician and the former mayor of Adjuntas. Barlucea is affiliated with the New Progressive Party (PNP) and served as mayor from 2005 till 2021. [1] [2]
Jaime H. Barlucea Maldonado was born in Ponce on February 14,1971. His parents are Jaime Barlucea Ortíz and Rosa María Maldonado Alvarez.
Barlucea completed a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and Public Administration from the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico.[ citation needed ]
Barlucea served as Regional Director of Fomento Cooperativo in Ponce. He also served as Special Aide for the President of the Commission on Public Service,among other positions.
Barlucea began his political career serving as member of the Municipal Assembly of Adjuntas. In 2004,he ran for mayor of the city,defeating incumbent Roberto Vera Monroig. [1] After that,Barlucea was reelected three times (2008,2012 and 2016). He won the 2020 PNP primaries,but lost the election to PPD candidate JoséSoto Rivera. [2]
Adjuntas is a small mountainside town and municipality in Puerto Rico located central midwestern portion of the island on the Cordillera Central,north of Yauco,Guayanilla,and Peñuelas;southeast of Utuado;east of Lares and Yauco;and northwest of Ponce. Adjuntas is spread over 16 barrios and Adjuntas Pueblo. Adjuntas is about two hours by car westward from the capital,San Juan.
Abel Nazario Quiñones is former senator at large of the 26th Senate of Puerto Rico and was mayor of Yauco,Puerto Rico. He was first elected in 2000 representing the New Progressive Party (PNP). He was reelected in 2004,2008 and 2012. Nazario is also the vice president of the PNP and also for the local Republican Party. He was arrested on 12 September 2018 by the FBI for illegal appropriation of federal funds.

The winners were elected to a four-year term from January 3,2021,to January 3,2025.
